The Department of Media, Art and Design at the University of Missouri-Kansas City is conducting a search for an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Graphic Design. This is a full-time, benefit-eligible, 9-month tenured or tenure-track position. Specifically, we are seeking applications from candidates who possess an understanding of the practical, historical, and professional aspects of graphic design.
Candidates should have a record of working within and across a combination of graphic design mediums, including, but not limited to, visual identity development, digital illustration, character design, storyboarding and user mapping, UI/UX and interaction design, motion design and animation, and packaging design. The candidate will participate in developing new curricula for graphic design studio courses, lead experiential learning opportunities such as client-based initiatives through the Student Design Lab and work to connect students to community design partners. JOB PURPOSE
To support the vision and mission of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and Spurgeon College (Midwestern) by creating stunning visual solutions for design projects which creatively communicate our story while upholding the brand standards for the institution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage the visual identity of Midwestern by creating graphics to effectively communicate the desired message and support the overall communication strategies, goals, and brand guidelines of the institution.
Maintain brand consistency across all communication.
Provide team feedback to form a cohesive look and feel between multiple designers.
Create eye-catching designs to effectively support the brand
Contribute to the design discovery processes through brainstorming, creative strategies, and team meetings, while ensuring brand consistency.
Solve creative problems at the conceptual level for various channels and mediums.
Stay up to date on design trends ensure relevancy from an aesthetic perspective.
Continue to learn and work toward mastery in the three main design programs (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign).
Maintain a strong attention to detail from a technical perspective.
Provide production support for projects, campaigns, and initiatives
Utilize production skills including designing and producing production-ready files quickly and accurately and performing press-checks as needed
Work with the project manager on file proof sign offs to ensure quality control.
Manage projects, adhering to critical project timelines in a fast-paced environment
Work closely with videography, photography, editors, web development, social media, internal clients, and any related external vendor, such as printers.
Execute print/collateral projects from start to finish
Work with the Director of Marketing to develop plans and designs for digital and print advertisements.
Meet weekly with the creative team to discuss projects and brainstorm creative ideas.

Undergraduate degree in graphic design, communications, or related field preferred
Minimum three (3) years graphic design experience preferred
Able to solve complex design problems
Must work collaboratively as part of a creative team
Display exceptional conceptual and design skills.
Possess a knowledgeable foundation in layout, typography, color, balance, composition, and current design trends.
Maintain discipline to consistently apply and enforce style and brand guidelines.
Understand digital and print requirements.
Able to respond professionally to direction, constructive critique, and client feedback.

PRIMARY OBJECTIVE OF POSITION
Provide graphic design and additional artistic services to support the operations of the Marketing Department focusing on logos, packaging, web design, printing, sales, photography, video, and legal compliance.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Ensure company logos and color schemes are used consistently and correctly throughout all media
Delegate print and web design projects and provide direction to other Marketing team members
Provide design and content direction to outsourced marketing firms and videographers
Review resumes of potential new Marketing team members and assist HR with the interview process
Product Packaging
Conceptualize, design, and execute packaging for Splinteks products
Visit retail stores to research trends in package structure, content, and design to stay competitive in the category
Collaborate with our International customers to translate their verbiage on our packages and design their packages within the limitations of their country
Collaborate with printing vendors and thermoforming vendors to construct cartons and plastic clamshells for product packaging
Collaborate with the Chemistry department to ensure product packaging provides an adequate shelf life
Possess an understanding of Splinteks automated packaging machines and design packaging to function correctly and efficiently (carton erector, rotary heat sealer)
Locate and hire 3rd party packaging companies and define their scope of work
Generate original barcodes for Splinteks products using company software
Conceptualize, design, and execute product instruction sheets, brochures, coupons, sales sheets, tags, logos, envelopes, business cards, letterhead, etc.
Design point-of-purchase displays for retail spaces (shipper floor display, counter display)
Design signage and dcor for the tradeshow booth
Layout printed content and barcodes to be printed on corrugated boxes
Printing and Pre-press Production
Possess an understanding of vendors production processes (off-set, flexible, digital, foil stamp, die-cut)
Layout and prepare electronic files for pre-press accurately to save time, money, and prevent confusion in the print vendors pre-press department
Submit electronic files to print vendor
Ensure that each print job is free of mistakes by reviewing proofs and requesting select Splintek employees to proof-read and sign the proof
Attending select press checks to ensure the job is printed correctly
Check order upon delivery to Splintek to ensure it was produced correctly
Perform other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION
REQUIRED:
Associate degree in Graphic Design, Advertising, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent experience
PREFERRED:
Bachelors Degree in Graphic Design, Advertising, Marketing or related field, or equivalent experience
EXPERIENCE AND SKILL
REQUIRED:
Minimum of 5 years of Graphic Design experience
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; Adobe Photoshop, Dreamwork and Illustrator; and WordPress
Basic knowledge of HTML and CSS, Social Media management, Google AdWords, and SEO
