The Production Artist splits their time between production design and creative work. The Production Artist prepares art for final output, assists with preliminary layouts of catalogs, and assists with other marketing requests.
Length: 6-month contract-to-hire

Role & Responsibilities
Proof, pre-flight, and prepare final catalog files for print.
Provide layout/production of art files.
Complete edits assigned to Production during proofing process.
Responsible for Font and Image curation, storage, and inventory.
Create digital and print artwork.
Approve graphics, fonts, layouts, and other creative choices.
Archive digital and print files in our system.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Comply with all policies and standards.
Required Qualifications
Associate's Degree in Graphic Design or equivalent experience or a solid portfolio with pre-press pieces
1-3 years as a Production Assistant or Coordinator in an advertising agency or in-house marketing team
Familiar with image compression, file correction and optimization techniques
Excellent working knowledge of pre-press, high-end print production process, and principles of typography
Ability to organize, prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously
Proficient with latest version of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, PDF Proofing
Knowledge of the printing process and the ability to create files correctly for press is essential (Example: bleeds, PDF proofing, spot and 4- color process)
Proficient in a Mac environment
Comfortable working in long form design format (large, multi-page designs)
Proficient written and verbal communication skills
Manage own project workflow while coordinating with project teams and management on schedules, requirements, goals and assignments as needed
Desired Qualifications
Prior experience with Production Art for Catalogs
Digital production experience is preferred
Web experience a plus

• Review proofs and work with printers on production of printed material.
• Keep abreast of industry thinking, new ideas and technologies.
• Assist in enhancing clients' websites, making them both visually inspiring with the creation of high-quality imagery and informative.
• Responsible for assisting with the design layout and content for specific print and electronic communications.
• Has the ability to edit and proof content and be held accountable for the technical accuracy.
• Has the ability and expertise to prepare files for print production.
• Assist in the use and application of the company's branding and graphic style standards while ensuring appropriate usage across the organization and through external vendors.
• Support multimedia efforts as assigned.
• Utilizes software to develop customer-focused email marketing campaigns.
• Strong graphic design/typography skills and UX experience.
• Experience with mobile design a plus.
• WordPress/WordPress Theme Development.

A DAY IN THE LIFE
As part of Montrose's Brand Design team, the Production Artist (temp) reports to the Creative Director and bridges big ideas and final delivery-making sure every pixel, layout, and file is production-ready and aligned to brand standards.
Create materials including presentations, one-pagers, technical documents (RFPs, reports), digital ads, emails, and web pages
Manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment-communicating roadblocks and meeting deadlines proactively
Participate in creative briefings and brainstorming sessions, asking thoughtful questions to clarify project needs
Collaborate with creative, marketing, and business stakeholders while also working independently
Support a distributed team across time zones, primarily in North America
Contribute to or support visual direction on select projects
Present design concepts clearly in virtual meetings
YOUR EXPERTISE AND SKILLS
A well-suited Production Artist will have:
1-3+ years of relevant design experience; however, candidates with less experience will be considered if they demonstrate strong skills, a solid portfolio, and growth potential
Intermediate proficiency with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
Apply creative problem-solving and design best practices across channels and formats
Be detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage workloads under tight deadlines (experience with project management tools a plus)
Communicate effectively and collaborate in a remote, virtual environment
Receptive to feedback and able to implement changes quickly
Performing repetitive tasks with high accuracy and consistent quality
Bring basic photo editing skills
Have familiarity with digital and print asset specifications (e.g., digital ads, event collateral, email templates, social media graphics)
Knowledge of file formats and conversions: AI, EPS, PDF, JPG, PNG, etc.
Basic understanding of prepress and proofing processes
