DevTech is recruiting for a part-time consultant Graphic Designer to work with the USAID Data Services team, supporting various projects related to our communications and training efforts.

This position's place of performance is Washington D.C. with the options for generous U.S. based telework or remote work.

Responsibilities
  • Design, edit, and refine a full range of print and digital collateral, including infographics and data visualization, presentations, electronic publications (including animated interactive PDFs), one-pagers, reports, and marketing materials for USAID Data Services
  • Design, edit, and refine custom image library for video marketing and animated materials for USAID Data Services training programs
  • Work with other designers and subject matter experts to develop conceptual designs, supporting an overall messaging strategy
  • Developing storyboards for animation and video projects
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design, Media Arts, Web Design, Visual Arts or similar area of study
  • Expertise in industry-standard graphic design and multimedia tools such as the Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign) and especially After Effects and Premier
  • Demonstrated experience conceptualizing, creating and executing design solutions as well as maintaining visual appearance, usability and brand continuity
  • Experience applying and strong understanding of the principles of design and 508 compliance
  • Experience developing materials and storyboards for Elearning
  • Experience developing graphics, illustrations, other creative materials for web and print
  • Experience creating HTML5 ad banners from start to finish
  • Knowledge of HTML/CSS editors, and other web publishing tools a plus
  • Knowledge of and experience with Sketch

Job Description

Background of the project

The Signpost project is a global partnership between the International Rescue Committee, Mercy Corps, Internews and NetHope that provides critical information services to people affected by crisis and conflict. Signpost was originally launched by the IRC and Mercy Corps in 2015 at the height of the European refugee crisis. As a community-led information service, Signpost delivers critical information through staff equipped with digital tools, digital channels and social media. Since its launch, Signpost has expanded to help 2 million+ people make life-saving decisions in in 30 countries on 6 continents in 15 languages.

Signpost has 15 active instances, each of which are localized projects targeting a specific population. They have social media channels and websites to enable clients to ask questions, read articles about topics relevant to them and learn where to access services. In the spring of 2022, Signpost received a granted from Google.org and a team of Google Fellows to support Signpost's response to the war in Ukraine, as well as Signpost as a whole. As a component of the support being provided by the Google Fellows, Signpost's client-facing sites are in the process of receiving a visual redesign. The global Signpost brand is in need of similar support to match these elevated designs. The global brand often the first touchpoint of the project for donors and other external stakeholders, so it is important that it reflects Signpost's professional and position within the humanitarian sector.

Scope of Work:

* Support the refresh of the Signpost global brand and uniform collateral, primarily for an external audience
* Execute a brand refresh that displays compelling visual storytelling and reflect Signpost's professional and position within the humanitarian sector
* Perform design-industry standard practices of ideation, file management demonstrated expertise in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite (Adobe CC) design tools - specifically InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop, as well as in Figma
* Produce professional-quality design, artwork and digital products
* Collaborate with Signpost team members to create design solutions and creative materials that are appropriate for the required audiences
* Develop and explain design concept options to relevant stakeholders
* Produce quality branding and brand guidelines that work for a global audience
* Incorporate team feedback into designs and products created
* Participate in team calls on a regular basis

Deliverables:

* A Signpost brand handbook and style guide that details the newly established Signpost global brand and its corresponding assets, as well as a quick reference guide
* A global map that displays where Signpost works and reflects the updated branding
* Illustrations demonstrating visual storytelling about how Signpost works and supports its clients globally
* Infographics and infographic templates for displaying key Signpost figures
* Templates for longform documents (such as user handbooks for country teams) and for shortform documents (such as informational sheets or one-pagers)
* A sample presentation deck for external audiences that can be quickly and easily adapted as needed
* Short gifs and animations of the Signpost global map and other aspects of the Signpost story
