Department Summary
The School of Music and Dance (SOMD) has an enrollment of more than 800 music and dance majors and minors, a faculty and staff of 85, and approximately 70 graduate employees. A wide variety of undergraduate and graduate degree programs are offered, from the baccalaureate through the doctorate, including programs in dance, music performance, collaborative piano, music education, composition, theory, musicology, jazz studies, piano and string pedagogy, conducting, music technology, and music with a liberal arts emphasis. The school is known for being the only comprehensive school of music and dance in the state of Oregon. It is also home to the internationally recognized Oregon Bach Festival and ChamberMusic@Beall performance series.
Position Summary
The School of Music and Dance (SOMD) Graphic Designer and Multimedia Specialist (Specialist) serves as the primary print and digital designer for all SOMD projects, with a special emphasis on digital communications. The Specialist works closely with the Director of Strategic Communications & Marketing and SOMD Communications team in promoting events and academic departments to prospective and current students, parents, alumni, donors, and community members by creating visually impactful imagery.
The Specialist produces communications with a view to creating cohesive and consistent messages utilizing visual communication and visual identity principles. This position also supports SOMD auxiliary programs such as Community Music Institute, Chamber Music at Beall, and the Grammy-winning Oregon Bach Festival. The Specialist is the principal artistic content creator and is responsible for generating several new original pieces of communications artwork throughout the year. They will have a keen sense of artistic identity and vision, with an ability to adapt and conform to university design standards. They will have technical knowledge of industry standard design software, interactive and digital media, photography, videography, web design, and illustration. The candidate will have a wide range of experience manipulating their artwork to different mediums, a desire to create something from nothing, and the professionalism to work with a variety of stakeholders on projects of varying size and importance.
The ideal candidate will have an understanding and/or appreciation for the performing arts; they will also have the ability to multitask and prioritize, and the desire to contribute to a positive office culture. Additional duties include involvement with the unit's social media channels, as well as photography and videography.
Minimum Requirements

Service specific needs of HOKA's Outdoor Lifestyle consumer.
Proactively propose ideas, develop concepts, sketches, and product ideation against product briefs within deadlines.

Manage team samples for easy access to reference and confidentiality.
Attend seasonal kickoff and participate in all design travel.
Who You Are
Bachelor's degree in Apparel Design or equivalent work experience.
5-10 years of experience in apparel design.
Expert understanding of construction and process for high-performance apparel.
Proven experience and portfolio that shows skills in the creation of Outdoor Lifestyle products grounded in performance.
Ability to communicate and take direction at a high level with global Outdoor Lifestyle consumers.
Proficient in Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, Keynote, PowerPoint, and 3D rendering software (a plus).
