About the Role:
The Graphic Design team develops and executes layouts, designs and production from concept through completion for a range of visual communications projects including social, digital web, print, video and photography. Individuals on this team utilize creativity, design and software skills while working collaboratively with a full in-house creative team. All this is done while interpreting brand guidelines and embodying a consistent visual brand representation for Baird.
This is a hybrid internship, working two days per week in our downtown Milwaukee, WI office and three days remote. The intern must be able to work full time during the summer, 37.5-40 hours per week, and work part time during the school semesters, 15-20 hours per week. We are seeking a local student who can start in May 2026.
The Impact You'll Make:
Be involved in various phases of a project including print and digital production, concept brainstorming and team meetings
Contribute to print-based design projects: primarily artwork changes and revisions, layout and design
Interpret brand guidelines and embody a consistent visual brand representation for Baird within design
Prepare appropriate files for vendors
Assist on web-based project needs as necessary

* Competitively shop the market in order to provide design inspiration and trend reports to cross-functional teams.
* Attend fittings and effectively communicate necessary adjustments needed to ensure proper fit and quality finishes.
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, effectively communicate design intents and specifications, provide feedback, and ensure accurate design execution.
* Set up initial proto tech packs and communicate new seasonal designs to cross-functional teams.
* Work in a Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system throughout the design process with responsibility for Bills of Materials (BOMs).
* Provide direction and market analysis for graphic tees, merchandising colorways, and graphics assortment.
* Manage and/or mentor Assistant/Associate Designers.
* Create and maintain presentation documents, tools, and samples.
* Ability to travel between offices seasonally, as needed.
* Present designs in meetings.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
* 5-7 years of apparel design experience, preferably in men's apparel, with strong knowledge of fabrics and trims and a solid understanding of the design process.
* Bachelor's degree in design or related field required.
* Solid understanding of design principles, garment construction and fabric selection, across multiple categories, i.e., knits, wovens, bottoms.
* Ability to interpret market trends, consumer preferences and fashion forecasts to create designs that align with current and future market needs and the brand's vision.
* Ability to create designs that prioritize comfort and fit while also considering aesthetics and fashion trends.
* Attention to detail, including trims, finishes and stitching, to ensure the quality and integrity of the final product.
* Strong knowledge of fabric and materials, with the ability to select appropriate materials, understand textile manufacturing processes and garment construction techniques.
* Strong understanding of technical execution and specifications in apparel, including specialized sewing or new techniques.
* Effective communication skills with cross-functional teams to ensure accurate execution of designs.
* Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
* Ability to manage priorities, goals and objectives.
* Adaptability and flexibility to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing fashion industry.
* Proficiency in design software such as Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

This role blends creative design with technical production and prepress skills to ensure artwork is accurate, clean, and ready for print - particularly in a large-format environment.
What You'll Do:
Prepress & Graphic Design:
Prepare customer files and original artwork for print production, ensuring they meet all prepress requirements: correct bleeds, color modes, resolution, crop marks, and output settings.
Set up and manage files for output through ONYX RIP software, ensuring accurate color management and production specs.
Modify and finalize customer-supplied files to meet technical specifications for digital and large-format printing.
Create full-color designs for signage, banners, decals, and other visual communications.
Proof and review designs for accuracy, consistency, and production readiness.
Maintain an organized library of customer assets and artwork for future use.
Conduct quality control checks to ensure all output meets company standards and client expectations.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with sales, production, and installation teams to ensure a seamless workflow from concept to final delivery.
Consult with clients as needed to ensure their design goals are achieved and their files are suitable for production.
Recommend design or material adjustments when necessary for improved output quality or efficiency.
Skills & Qualifications:
1-2 years of experience in graphic design, prepress, or signage production.
Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop is required.
Strong understanding of prepress and print file setup - especially for large-format or wide-format printing.
Experience using ONYX RIP software (or willingness to learn quickly).
Excellent attention to detail and ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced production environment.
Familiarity with sign shop equipment and materials is highly desirable.
