The Designer position responsible for operating with minimal supervision while completing project designs and submittals. Expected to be very familiar with SFS's quality documents, procedures, and work instructions as they related to the design function. What You Will Do: Potential service areas for internships are listed below: * Assist civil engineers and other design staff to prepare, edit and label project designs in Civil3D and/or MicroStation. * This work may be in the following disciplines: municipal, land development, transportation, water resources, water / waste water, and structural. * Construction inspection / environmental compliance interns perform field observation, verify compliance with plans and specifications, prepare pay estimates, and produce project documentation. * Geotech / materials interns assist engineers to collect and analyze soil, concrete, and aggregate samples; and prepare daily observation reports. * Surveying interns assist a survey crew to collect and report data; and carry and pound hubs and lath to mark grade. * Our Preferred candidate will have: Experience working in Texas including TxDOT, Cities, and/or Counties. What You Will Bring: The successful candidate will be: * Enrolled in a four-year or two-year technical school, college or university majoring in civil/environmental/construction engineering, construction management, civil technology, land surveying, or related field. * You must possess a valid driver's license, have a clean driving record, and * Have the ability to get to various worksite locations. * You must be at least 18 years old. * For field-based positions, you must have the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and various terrains associated with construction projects. Positions are located onsite five days a week. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1) Create, revise and maintain engineering and record drawings, and sketches. 2) Support the creation, revision, and maintenance of facilities and equipment documents; including but not limited to construction, equipment, property documents and records. 3) Obtain information required to perform work from verbal communication, sketches, marked drawings, listings, field notes, vendors' catalogs and technical reference manuals and site visits. 4) Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish assigned work. 5) Proficiency in the use of computer aided design software. Autodesk products - AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor, Vault. 6) Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software. 7) Read vendors' prints, shop and other drawings and equipment operating instructions, and incorporate that information into the work being performed. 8) Demonstrate ethical behavior as outlined in the AEP corporate policies. 9) Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
