Grc company history timeline

1931

The remarkable growth of GRC since its first official conference in 1931 is due to its adherence to the principles of free and open discussion of research at the frontiers of science.

The first meeting of what was to become the Gordon Research Conferences took place at Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland, in the summer of 1931.

1947

After running ten conferences in the summer of 1947, the GRC headquarters were moved to the University of Rhode Island.

1950

During the next two decades, Parks presided over steady growth in the number of conferences and attendees.In 1950, Parks became chairman of the chemistry department at the University of Rhode Island.

1956

In 1956, the Gordon Research Conferences incorporated in New Hampshire as a nonprofit, tax exempt organization devoted to scientific and educational purposes.

1963

In 1963, the Polymers Conference moved to Santa Barbara, California, founding GRC's West Coast winter series.

1968

In 1968, after twenty-one years as director of GRC, Parks resigned and Alexander Cruickshank assumed directorship of the conferences.

1990

In 1990, responding to the international growth of research and technology, the Gordon Research Conferences began to hold meetings outside of the United States The first meetings were in Volterra, in northern Italy.

1996

In 1996, the first Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) was held in conjunction with a Gordon Research Conference.

2002

In that year, enormous accounting scandals at organisations such as Enron, Worldcom, and Tyco prompted the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002 (SOX), which was passed by the US congress to protect investors from the possibility of fraudulent accounting activities by corporations.

2003

Since 2003, the GRC Group has maintained its position at the leading edge in the domain of governance, risk, and compliance.

Recognizing the value of the SOX Act, and that compliance depended upon correctly interpreting and implementing these regulations, in 2003 Sanjay Anand founded the Sarbanes-Oxley Group.

2004

In the following year, the Group self-published its flagship book, Sarbanes-Oxley Guide for Finance and Information Technology Professionals, which became Amazon’s self-publishing division's #1 bestseller for 2004.

2007

In 2007, the organization added the GRC Institute, to better reflect the broad scope of the association’s services and products.

2008

In 2008, the organization expanded and became the GRC Group, to encompass their research, education, and advisory services.

2013

2016

In 2016, technology solutions are often required simply to manage the intake and distribution of information from regulatory and standards authorities.

2021

While these capabilities are making strides with some early adopters, it will be about 2021 when cognitive GRC technologies gain a greater hold in the market and have proven themselves with the early adopters.
