Great Northern company history timeline

1962

Since 1962, our success has been built on great partnerships with our customers.

1967

With this issue resolved the ICC reopened hearings on January 4, 1967.

1968

As the process the railroad's name was formally changed to Burlington Northern, Inc. (BNI) during April of 1968.

1969

During its last year of corporate independence (1969) the Great Northern earned a net income of $23.4 million.

1970

The following four railroads merged into the Burlington Northern Railroad on March 2, 1970:

1995

The Burlington Northern merged with the Santa Fe to form the current Burlington Northern Santa Fe (BNSF Railway) on September 22, 1995.
