Work under the direct supervision of a certificated teacher of the hearing impaired to facilitate communication between students with hearing impairments and their hearing peers, the classroom teacher, and other personnel in the school system; provide interpreting and other support services to students with hearing impairments who are mainstreamed in a variety of school settings. Other duties that may be performed when not required to provide interpreting may include tutoring, and note taking. Employees in this classification receive general supervision from an assigned administrator and work with a certificated teacher within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures. REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES: ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Provide sign to voice/voice to sign interpreting which may include American Sign Language, a form of manually coded English, and/or oral interpreting depending on the needs of the student. Sign a variety of subject matter and instructional materials. Provide tutoring and/or note taking and other support services (such as photocopying, typing, recordkeeping, etc.) when necessary and interpreting is not needed.
