    Bus Operator - Fixed Route Starting at $24.44 General Function: Operates buses in a safe and efficient manner within established rules and regulations. Provides professional and courteous customer service. Accountability: This position reports to the Manager of Bus Operations or her/his designee. Position Requirements - Essential Functions: The physical and other demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Operates a passenger bus generally over a prescribed route. Operates the bus safely and according to GBT, local, state, and federal regulations. Reports to garage before scheduled departure time, unless making relief at an alternate location. Obtains route assignment and performs required vehicle inspections completing driver defect card by observing any defects and checks operating systems and brakes. Professionally and with high quality customer services, provides passengers and the general public with accurate information regarding GBT services. Communicates with a central dispatch/communication center all information pertinent to the safe and expeditious movement of the bus. Immediately and accurately reports to the central dispatch/communication system all unusual incidents and accidents. Accurately and according to GBT rules, prepares written reports on incidents, accidents, and vehicle defects, and other written reports as directed, requesting dispatch, or other service as needed. Maintains a schedule according to established time points and established running times, over a specific route. Monitors the fare box, enforces fare policies, addresses fare irregularities; issues, validates, and accepts transfers according to regulations, answers questions about fares, routes and service. Completes driver observation card at completion of shift, noting items, customer complaints, or comments. When returning, stops bus at vault pull area, awaits probing and proceeds to the garage. Interacts with fellow operators, supervisors, and other company officials in a professional manner. Represents the company in litigation involving accidents as needed. Performs other job-related duties which are in keeping with the goals and objectives of GBT. Attends training sessions and safety meetings as well as other meetings as required or directed. Keeps informed about GBT activities and monitors GBT informational postings. Provides constructive feedback regarding improvements to the GBT service. Conducts pre-trip inspection by walking around bus to observe and assess any visual defects and checks operating systems-brakes, horn windshield wipers, lights, first-aid kits, emergency and door operating devices before starting trip. Checks with dispatch operation on two-way radio, and other items. Follows instructions of supervisors and management. Conducts other duties as assigned. Requirements - Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must be able to communicate verbally, and in writing in English in a logical manner to complete reports, assignment sheets, other documents and forms. Must have the ability to compute basic arithmetic, and tell time accurately. Must possess good oral communication skills to accurately relate information to the communication center, public or management personnel. Must possess good interpersonal skills to interact positively with other Operators, management staff, passengers, and the general public. Must be able to learn to safely and defensively operate a transit vehicle. Ability to drive a transit vehicle in a safe and defensive manner. Must be able to work independently, and must be willing to work shifts from day to night and operate seven days a week, including holidays, weekends, split shifts. · Education: Must possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. Licensing and Other Requirements: Must Meet All Licensing Requirements. Such requirements may change from time to time.     General Function: GBT's Assistant Manager of Transportation Operations has day-today responsibility for all aspects of the Transportation Department supporting and under the direction of the Manager of Transportation Operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to operational safety, efficiency and effectiveness, customer service, compliance, oversight of supervision and dispatch staff and interaction with the Union and its members. This position oversees the day-to-day work of dispatch supervision, dispatch operations, safety training, and federal and state regulatory compliance, the development of operator assignments, capital planning, operational budgeting, technology and communication systems and staffing. Accountability: This position reports to the Manager of Transportation Operations and assists in the supervision of Field Service Managers, Dispatchers/Supervisors and other staff assigned to the Department. Position Requirements: Under the direction of the Manager of Transportation Operations, supports the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Transportation Department ensuring safety, proper staffing, compliance with federal, state and local requirements pertaining to bus operations and on-time performance. Ensures appropriate staffing levels and determines daily staffing needs of the Department and always ensures the proper number of full-time and part-time operators. Assists in the development and monitoring of the Department's budget ensuring all services are commensurate with the available budget, taking proactive action to ensure there are no budgetary overruns or other problems. Assists in the development, codification, and implementation of standard operating procedures for the Department pertaining to safety, customer service, driver assignments, supervision, the proper use of communication devices and other equipment, fare collection, and other areas important to GBT and its customers. Assists in the oversight of the day-to-day activities of all GBT dispatchers and supervisors ensuring a proper complement of dispatchers and road supervisors and that their respective duties are conducted according to GBT policies and procedures. Provides ongoing oversight and evaluations of supervisors and dispatchers. Assists in the day-to-day activities of GBT's safety training staff ensuring proper training for all Department staff members and ensuring safety and compliance with standard policies and procedures as well as federal, state, and local regulations. May provide direct training to operators in select safety areas. Participates in all accident investigations and may participate in the implementation of GBT's PTASP when required. Enforces GBT's procedure to ensure that all operators have the requisite credentials to safely operate GBT vehicles and that all operators are aware of, and in compliance with, limitations to the hours of operation of commercial vehicles, and other regulatory requirements. Assists, and may lead in the implementation of GBT's drug and alcohol detection program ensuring compliance with federal requirements, the policy of the agency, the policy and procedures associated with the Statewide Drug and Alcohol Consortium with bottom-line responsibility for ensuring that tests of all types are performed according the established procedures and protocols. Assists in GBT's Operator Safety Training Program using data regarding operations to craft and implement an effective safety training program with the overall goal of reducing and eliminating accidents of any kind. Actively participates in the process of run-cutting and the development of driver assignments. Assists in, and may lead, the periodic operator bidding process in accordance with bargaining agreements. Actively participates in GBT's Safety Committee, Service Review Committee, Run-cutting Committee, Passenger Advisory Committee, Safety, Risk Management Leadership Group, and Customer Service and Complaints Review Committee. Has daily, bottom-line, responsibility for the complete and accurate preparation of payroll data and information for timely distribution to the finance department and maintains a strong working relation with the finance department staff. Monitors and ensures that all elements of GBT's Collective Bargaining Agreements are followed and that all discipline is conducted according to agreements in a fair, consistent and properly documented manner. Maintains a sound and professional working relationship with the ATU Local 1336 Bargaining Units. Assists in the management of the Department's vacation schedules in compliance with GBT's Union Contract. Assists in the dissemination of materials from various departments to the relevant staff in Transportation Operations ensuring that all staff receives proper notifications and are up-to-date on all GBT policies, procedures and other directives. Develops and maintains a proficiency in GBT's technology systems including the Advance Communication System (ACS), radio dispatch system and run-cutting system - understanding both hardware and software aspects of the systems. Participates in the investigation of all customer complaints and coordinates responses with staff of the Customer Service Department. Provides performance metrics as required to various departments. May participate in labor negotiations. Provides support in preparation for and during labor negotiations. Works cooperatively with the maintenance department personnel to resolve equipment issues and ensures that all operator maintenance related concerns are tracked and resolved. May be called upon to outside of normal business hours to address urgent operations issues, assist with operations at the region's Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and training needs and may be required at evening or weekend meetings. Other duties as assigned by the Manager of Transportation Operations or his/her designee. Minimum Requirements: Possession of a High School Diploma/GED. A college degree or other preparatory technical, managerial/supervisory, facilitation and communication skills training is preferred. A minimum of three (3) years of technical, managerial, or supervisory experience in public transportation is required. Appropriate preparatory training beyond the required high school education or the attainment of requisite communication and presentation skills and knowledge in a relevant non-supervisory position may be substituted for a portion of the experience is required. Knowledge of public bus transit operations, the application of policies, procedures, rules, and contractual requirements and the ability to model safe driving and customer service skills. Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the public service endorsements and the ability to be insured by GBT throughout employment. Proficient in software programs (word processing, spreadsheet, and database), internet applications and utilization of all relevant office equipment. The ability to quickly learn internal software programs. The ability to prioritize projects and have excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy. We are seeking a Waste Collection Rear Load Driver who will be working out of our Shelton / North Haven, CT facility and reporting to the Site Manager but is also subject to supervision by Route Supervisors and Dispatchers. This is a full time, Union, non-exempt, hourly position with a first shift schedule from 4am and 3pm, Monday through Friday with some Saturdays but may vary depending on business needs. Shifts may vary from 10 to 12 hours per evening or until the route is complete. Our Waste Collection Roll-Off Driver's main responsibility is to safely operate a Rear Load Truck, for the pick-up service of containers filled with waste or recyclable material. Drivers transport the material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility, and may make one or more trips throughout the shift. A minimum of 1 year of experience driving and operating a Rear Load Truck is required. Essential Job Functions: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.: Continuously monitor for safety and service-related issues, as well as containers or other equipment in need of repair, and report any issues to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch. All employees are expected to be responsible and accountable for the safety for themselves, their colleagues, the trucks, and other equipment and property. Drivers must immediately notify Route Supervisor or Dispatch of any incidents, accidents, injures, or property damage. Performs pre- and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicle using utilizing standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report); notes all issues on DVIR form for corrective review/repair. Communicate professionally with customers and Dispatchers at all times. This includes receiving complaints about schedules and quality of service. Our Drivers must make note of and report on any such complaints and respond in a courteous and respectful manner. Notifies Dispatch or Route Manager of issues as prescribed by Service Machine protocol, including blocked containers, potential missed pick-ups or problems that arise on the route. Communicates customer requests or issues to Dispatch or Route Manager. Completely dumps all containers and leaves the customer's location clean and free of debris. Completes and submits customer tickets when excess yardage must be removed. Positions containers on the customer's property in a manner that ensures lids are properly replaced, containers are set in an upright position, and containers do not block driveway entrances or traffic. Work closely with Route Supervisor to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices. Distribute invoices to external clients through various distribution platforms e.g., mail, email, and client portal uploads. * Analyze unbilled detail to reduce WIP and to optimize billing opportunities for the billing period. * Communicate project financial information to management for assigned projects. * Research and resolve routine and non-routine billing questions and discrepancies following standard operating procedures. * Perform routine collections efforts for centralized National Accounts which could include phone calls or emails. May communicate with clients regarding past due invoices. * Collaborate with Project Managers, Operational Finance, Corporate Collections, and direct supervisor to resolve outstanding AR issues. * Confirm documentation of collection activities including invoice submission, expected payments, and both internal and external follow-up communication in the collections tool. * Answer Help Desk calls relating to billing and resolve billing application and procedural errors for offices. * Provide excellent client service by maintaining a positive and professional attitude as well as positive and cooperative relationship with peers, coordinators, and managers, as well as when interacting by phone, email, chats, or in person with internal and external clients. * Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects.
