Green Hill company history timeline

1870

In 1870, freedman Hardy Green purchased 30 acres of land along Mathis Ferry Road.

1891

1891, an exceptionally fine cast metal monument on a stepped base with classical, sheaf of wheat and draped decoration all in a soft gray.

1914

12, 1914 the cemetery superintendent recorded "coldest weather ever in Martinsburg, thermometer registered 20 degrees below zero! Railroad entries are frequent, such as "killed in railroad yard," "Killed at Opequon by B & 0," and "killed at Couchman's curve.

1915

Record books now in the cemetery lodge for l897-1915 indicate a great deal about the area, cemetery and local folkways and more.

1917

11, I854, and presumably was soon used, 'the crest of the hill, viewable from the entrance was initially topped with a chapel of unknown design.' It is now crowned with a neo-Classical Revival stone mausoleum, built 1917.

1925

In 1925 on Rte 80, Carrie Hawkins sold vegetables on the road next to the family farm.

1934

Her son, Clifford, had the stand built in 1934.

1949

In the summer of 1949, the barn that housed the cows at their dairy farm caught fire (no animals were hurt; they were out in the fields) It was at that time they decided to sell the dairy business and go into the grocery business.

1982

Green Hills Software was founded in 1982, is privately held, has been profitable since its inception.

1991

As the first game loaded in 1991, players were introduced to a level that would go on to become one of the most iconic in gaming history: Green Hill Zone.

2008

In 2008, the Green Hills INTEGRITY-178B RTOS was the first and only operating system to be certified by the NSA to EAL 6+ High Robustness, the highest level of security ever achieved for any software product.
