1866

Greenlee Brothers & Co. was established in 1866.

1872

In 1872, a group of soldiers from Silver City, New Mexico, lead by Captain Chase were seeking renegade Apaches, in the group were Jim and Bob Metcalf.

1874

The 1874 edition of "Wiley's American iron trade manual of the leading iron industries of the United States" lists Greenlee Bros. & Co. of 229 West 12th Street as a maker of woodworking machinery, specialty machines, and blind clamps, and employing 25 hands.

A small settlement of miners developed near the city (a state census record for 1874 shows a population of 132). From that day to the present, the vast majority of people from Clifton, Morenci and Duncan have depended on the mining industry for their livelihood.

1876

The Greenlee brothers prepared the way for Norm Abram by developing the first successful hollow-chisel mortiser in 1876; their circle-in-a-square logo was inspired by their innovation.

1881

In 1881 they introduced the first self-feed rip saw, which became a top seller.

In 1881 Graham County was created from parts of Apache and Pima counties.

1882

1905

As described in the Copper Era of February 23, 1905, the Morenci YMCA played the University of Arizona in basketball.

1909

The bill was introduced on February 25, 1909 as council bill 94.

The bill to create a new county was approved March 10, 1909 by Governor Joseph H. Kibbey.

1910

In 1910, the combined population of the Clifton-Morenci area neared 18,000, forming one of the largest mining districts in Arizona.

1974

Greenlee Brothers was acquired by Ex-Cell-O in 1974.

1986

Textron acquired Ex-Cell-O in in 1986.

2019

Greenlee Tools continued to expand and grow and the company also changed hands several times, keeping the name Greenlee and they are now a subsidiary of Emerson electric as of 2019.
