Christopher Ancona joined Greenspring Associates in 2019 as Chief Compliance Officer and Counsel. Previously, Chris worked in the Assurance and Business Advisory Services Practice for PricewaterhouseCoopers, and as an examiner for the US Securities and Exchange Commission. Additionally, Chris has served in senior compliance roles, including CCO and general counsel, for The Baupost Group, Chesapeake Partners and Numeric Investors. Chris received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Syracuse University and a Juris Doctor from Suffolk University Law School. Chris is a Certified Public Accountant and a licensed attorney.

Eric Thompson joined Greenspring Associates in 2007 as the Vice President of Finance and was promoted to Chief Financial Officer in February 2008 and later to Chief Operating Officer in May 2014. Eric manages all of Greenspring Associates’ finance and back office operations.

Previously, Eric worked as a Manager in the Assurance and Business Advisory Services Practice for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, in Baltimore. Eric served both public and private institutions and was responsible for providing Sarbanes Oxley Implementation and Compliance, oversaw the Initial Public Offering of a local biotech firm and was responsible for supervising regular SEC filings for his public clients. Additionally, Eric provided audit and advisory services to many of the area’s premier venture capital firms. Eric served on the PricewaterhouseCoopers’ audit of Greenspring Associates since 2002.

A Certified Public Accountant, Eric received both his Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and his Masters of Business Administration in Finance from the Sellinger School of Business and Management at Loyola College in Maryland.

Mike Hoover

Chief People Officer

As an outside advisor on corporate strategy and talent management, Mike worked closely with the Greenspring leadership team for several years before formally joining us as Chief People Officer in July 2020. Prior to joining Greenspring, Mike was the Senior Vice President of Strategy for Scott’s Miracle Gro. In this role, he was responsible for oversight of over $1.5 billion in mergers and acquisitions. Mike joined Scott’s after serving as a Partner in the McChrystal Group Leadership and Management consulting firm, where he led the firm’s largest consulting engagement inception-to-date at that time. Prior to joining the McChrystal Group, Mike served in the United States Army for over 27 years. During his career, he served in the 75th Ranger Regiment, the 5th Special Forces Group, Airborne and spent the last 21 years of his career in the United States Army Special Operations Command. Mike is a veteran of several combat deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq and North Africa. He is active in Veterans Affairs, specifically with efforts to combat the opiate abuse problems associated with mental health issues in our Veteran community, as well as mentoring Veterans as they transition from military service to the private sector. Mike is married to an incredible wife, Alex, and their shared hobbies include fitness, working on their farm and making fun of one another.
