Essential Functions

Evaluate all new patient cancer referrals to initiate contact with patient. Review patient records for NCCN guidelines for diagnosis, staging, and treatment as well as to identify staging studies, molecular profiling, and other tests that may be scheduled prior to the initial consult.
Assesses health status of patients who are targeted for participation in cancer care management program; conduct initial assessment, interview, and screening/determinization for risk.
Ensures patient referrals to appropriate support services after a comprehensive assessment of patient needs and barriers. This may include referrals for complex care management, integrative oncology, survivorship, and community resources.
Participates in the development of assessment tools, care management guidelines, pathways and algorithms for cross-continuum care of patients with cancer at all points in the care continuum.
Participates in and creates multi-disciplinary care plan as appropriate for patient care needs and direction. This includes documentation of initial treatment plan, as established by oncologist, ongoing supportive care needs, as well as survivorship care plans. This also includes the review and understanding of clinical trials for possible participation and initiating contact with research nurse.
Conducts patient education; collaborates with the patient to establish goals and activities to enhance patient self-management and participation in plan of care.
Promotes and provides patient, family, staff, and community education through use of expert clinical knowledge base. Participates in community oncology wellness activities.
Participating in inter-disciplinary teams to develop, implement, and evaluate new processes of care as determined by the team.
Prepare and lead cancer site specific tumor boards as well as participating and potentially leading interdisciplinary teams devoted to outlining current and best practices and processes including any issues related to access, care delivery, education, research and outcomes.

A regional academic medical center and hospital with more than 125 years of service to Columbia, Prisma Health Richland Hospital provides a wide range of primary and specialty healthcare services. Our Trauma Center is the only Level I Adult and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the Midlands.
The Neuroscience and Stroke Unit is a 28-bed telemetry unit providing care for neurosurgical patients such as craniotomy, fusions and VP shunts as well neuro patients suffering from disorders such as seizures and stokes. The standard nurse to patient ratio is 1:4.

Accepts assignments outside normal duties when such fulfills an agency need.

Minimum Requirements
Education - Associate degree in Nursing
Experience - One (1) year of experience as a Registered Nurse

A valid driver's license; an acceptable motor vehicle record, as defined by the Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) Chart; and proof of auto insurance. Employee must have reliable transportation and will be expected to adhere to the Prisma Health Driver Safety Policy and specific department driving policies. Employee must pass driver training.

Responds to the anesthetic needs of patients and coordinates their care with other perioperative personnel during the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases. Administers anesthesia services to patients for medical and surgical procedures relevant to the facility under the medical direction of staff anesthesiologist. Responds to the emergent airway management within the facility as needed. May be on-call, either in-house or from home, as required by the facility.
Accountabilities
Formulates anesthetic plan with anesthesiologist. Discusses plan and the risks, benefits, and options with the patient. Prepares for the administration of anesthetic and implementation of plan. - 15%
Performs special line placement procedures granted within the guidelines for the practice setting, including but not to limited intravenous and arterial line insertion. - 10%
Documents appropriate data on pre-anesthesia assessment. Documents intraoperative anesthesia care on intra-op anesthesia record, including but not limited to charting vital signs, drug deliveries, fluid and blood deliveries, fluid loss, events and their times, and appropriate comments. Documents appropriate charges, quality indicators, and controlled substance disbursement use and waste. - 25%
Maintains age specific competence in anesthesia technical skills appropriate for the practice setting. Skills include (but not limited to) airway management, induction, blocks, and general anesthesia. - 20%
Maintains and acquires new knowledge of anesthesia pharmacology (including new drugs), anesthesia modalities, techniques, and technology. - 15%
Provides a safe practice environment by utilizing a systematic approach to minimize risk ( to patient and providers) of infection, physical injury, psychological stress, and equipment failure. - 15%

Master's Degree- Nurse Anesthesia
No previous experience required.

In lieu of the Master's Degree in Anesthesia, will accept CRNA's which graduated before December 31, 2003 from an advanced, organized formal education program for nurse anesthetists accredited by the national accreditation organization of the CRNA specialty.
