Supervise mill crew. Job Responsibilities Report to the mill 15 minutes prior to the shift. Make necessary preparations to ensure continuous production while changing shifts. Review mill orders and mill operation with previous shift operator. Make quality checks on tubes being produced. Ensure that the proper steel is in the floop and the required steel is staged in the floop area. Ensure that there is an adequate supply of wood and banding at the cut-off. Ensure that all scrap is dumped and hoppers are emptied. Certify your micrometers and tape measure with the calibration fixture. Document all findings.Check for any special requirements or requests on orders and notify your crew members so the necessary preparations can be made. Complete daily production and inspection reports. Note all mill downtime and mill operation problems on production report. Perform quality checks approximately every 15 minutes and document results on the inspection reports. At the end of your shift sign your inspection reports before turning in your paperwork. Manage, direct, and train mill personnel as required. Ensure all safety procedures and policies are being observed by all crewmembers. Make recommendations to management regarding disciplinary action, etc. of employees reporting to him. Keep buildings and plant areas secure; gates and doors closed.
