As a Culinary Specialist, youll cook meals and work alongside chefs to prepare meals comparable to any major restaurant, so that Soldiers can sit down and enjoy a hot meal between training or mission deployments. Youll be responsible for preparing and servicing meals both in the field and at home stations, as well as ordering, inspecting food supplies, and keeping the kitchen safe and sanitary.
Skills youll learn align with Preparation & Cooking, Stocking & Storage, Hospitality. In addition, you could earn 15 nationally recognized certifications!

The duties performed by Culinary Specialists include:

CSs spend approximately 60% of their time assigned to fleet units and 40% to shore stations over a 20-year career. Their work environments include shipboard galleys, mess decks, and

Training & Advancement
After completing Recruit Training, CSs attend a seven-week A school in Fort Lee, VA, where they learn food preparation, nutrition, and dining service. Placement and advancement opportunities are excellent for qualified applicants. Advanced technical and operational training is available later in their careers.
Education Opportunities
CSs can earn college credits through the American Council on Education for courses taken in this rating. Additionally, the United States Naval Community College (USNCC) offers degree
programs, including a Naval Studies Certificate, that contribute toward an associate degree. These programs support professional development and educational advancement. CSs may also take advantage of voluntary education programs such as the Navy College Program, Tuition Assistance, and the Post-9/11 GI Bill to further their education while serving.

He/She has special training and/or experience in the art of cooking so as to prepare and cook beef and other types of meat to each customer's exact specifications, poultry, or fish while simultaneously maintaining full control of the grill station. In addition to preparing grilled foods, The GrillCook is also required to fry sides, poultry and fish dishes as part of their duties. He/she is responsible for preparing other products, which will involve cutting and lifting products in cases as well as assembling, measuring, portioning and restocking. The ideal GrillCook candidate has a minimum of one year training and/or experience in the art and is responsible to:
Prepare all products to Fuddruckers specifications, following freshness standards, temperatures and hold times as directed by company, local, state and federal guidelines
Keep open communication with other Cooks and the Expeditor to meet Guest needs
Monitor ticket times to ensure Guests receive their order in accordance to Fuddruckers ticket time standards
Practice, monitor, and reinforce food safety procedures according to policy and health/sanitation regulations
Manage and maintain a safe working condition
Maintain fast, accurate service, positive guest relations, and ensure products are consistent with quality standards
Professional appearance required (see uniform standards)
Problem solver that has the ability to adapt and overcome

Overview
