Activism is essential in student life at Grinnell, and many of its graduates join the Peace Corps. The college even maintains an Office of Social Commitment, which advises Grinnell students on better to serve the common good. The OSC organizes the “Grinnell Corps,” which provides post-graduate services opportunities. It is also responsible for much of Grinnell's merit-based financial aid, such as the Obermiller Scholarship and the Baumann Essay Prize. Grinnell organizes into three main divisions: Humanities, Science and Social Studies. In addition to the programs that fall under these banners, the college offers a variety of interdisciplinary concentrations. These include Global Development Studies, Environmental Studies and Technology Studies, to name a few. To apply to Grinnell, use the Common Application and Grinnell College Supplement. The college receives many applications, but the ones that stand out to admissions officers are those with excellent academic records and the engaged, hands-on attitude that will fit in with Grinnell's socially active student body.
