Grinnell College company history timeline
In 1846, they collectively established Iowa College in Davenport.
Notable alumni include New Deal statesman Harry Hopkins, actor Gary Cooper, computer engineer Robert Noyce, and Nobel Prize-winning biochemist Thomas Cech. It was founded by a group of transplanted New Englanders and Congregational ministers in Davenport, Iowa, in 1846 and was the first four-year liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River.
Although two students received Bachelor of Arts degrees in 1854 (the first to be granted by a college west of the Mississippi River), within 10 years the Civil War had claimed most of Grinnell's students and professors.
In 1975, Grinnell College through their Grinnell Communications subsidiary had purchased NBC affiliate WLWD from Avco Broadcasting Corporation for about $13 million.
His next project, Possibilities (2005), was a venture into pop music with such guest performers as Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Santana.
