Overnight Counselors lead groups and engage participants to create a memorable and educational overnight experiences for our guests. These enthusiastic instructors lead engaging and fun activities while hosting their group through the evening and into the next morning. If you are a passionate educator with great customer service skills, then this job is for you! Responsibilities Responsible for instruction of planned lessons and activities for children on Zoo grounds and in a classroom setting. Responsible for overall safety and well-being of groups. Deliver programming and engage participants in activities. Set-up and clean-up of program activities and/or arts and crafts. May maintain proper check-in and checkout procedures and assists in enforcing rules of the program while providing top-notch customer service. Counselor schedule is typically 5:30pm in the evening through 10:30am the next morning (counselors sleep while the guests sleep). Programs are scheduled on Friday and Saturday nights from March through December. Counselors are required to work two or more shifts per month. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required. Completed or pursuing a BA/BS in education, natural sciences, or other related field (with at least junior/senior status). Experience teaching informal classes or in a camp environment preferred. Requires overnight stays, evenings and weekends. Counselors are expected to work a minimum of two to three camp-in programs per month. Experience working with children ages 5 and up. Able to balance multiple assignments successfully. Able to work in varied weather conditions (i.e. extreme heat, rain). Excellent communication skills. Able to work independently.
