ABL Space Systems ground systems engineer job description

ABL Space Systems was founded in 2017 by veterans of SpaceX and Morgan Stanley to develop low-cost launch vehicles for the small satellite industry. More importantly, we're building a launch system we are truly proud of - no gimmicks or over-design, just reliable, rapidly deployable launches. We're an ambitious team with big goals and, together, we're determined to prove that reaching space can be simple, efficient, and routine.
When launch day arrives, we want you by our side

ABL's Ground Power Systems Engineers are responsible for the design and operations of the mission-critical power transformation and distribution systems to support ABL's growing list of Launch and Test sites.
Ground Power Systems Engineers build critical core infrastructure by creating robust systems that just work, are safe by design, and simple, but not too simple. From AC power systems to instrumentation interfaces and power control systems, the Ground Power Systems Engineer's scope is broad and multi-disciplinary. Good Ground Power Systems Engineers recognize that their ownership of a system is fully inclusive - they are responsible for dreaming, designing, developing, building, activating, and operating their ground power systems.
Responsibilities:Design and build power generation, distribution, and transformation systems to support a diverse CONOPs and deployment strategy.Perform calculations necessary for specifying AC power systems, instrumentation and controls devices, circuit breakers, disconnects, fuses, wire sizing, conduit/raceway sizing, etc.Prepare and maintain detailed power system configuration documentation. Participate in and host requirements reviews, design reviews, and data reviews for power systems.Develop, issue, and verify power system deployment, operation, and checkout procedures. Provide technical expertise and leadership to ensure process problems are resolved based on sound engineering concepts.Project and contractor management for electrical construction and maintenance.
Basic Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline, preferably in Electrical, Mechanical, Aerospace or, Computer engineering. A minimum of 3 years of experience in power systems design and build for civil, oil and gas, aerospace, or military applications.Strong understanding of mission-critical, fault-tolerant, uninterruptible power system design and operation up to 600VAC, 3-Phase. Strong understanding of NFPA 70 National Electrical Code and UL508 Control Systems Design.Work experience with PLC, DAQ or similar systems.Basic physical layer networking of client/server architectures via ethernet and fiber-optics. What We Look ForCritical thinking: ABL engineers understand the "why" behind all design decisions, operational events and test outcomes.
