Work Environment:

This position primarily involves working in a field environment. Will be working around heavy construction equipment. May be exposed to odors and fumes while working with chemicals. May be exposed to adverse/inclement weather conditions while working outside. May work variable hours and or weekends.

Must be able to work in the area of power poles and in confined areas among high voltage energized lines and perform strenuous work under emergency and all weather conditions. Must be able to work safely in road traffic, public and private property, and maintain public safety.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to bend, squat, pull, push or climb. Will individually or with assistance pull or use force regularly for materials, tools and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, frequently pull or use force up to 50 pounds, and occasionally pull and use force up to 100 pounds.

Work Environment:

Primarily outside work in various weather conditions, including occasional extreme conditions. Regular work hours with the potential for overtime and extended days due to emergencies and/or weather conditions. Frequently exposed to the risk of electrical shock. Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The following are essential responsibilities of this position and do not include marginal functions that are incidental to the performance of the fundamental job duties.   1. Safely assists line technicians and other line workers, as instructed, in the construction, replacement, and maintenance of electric distribution lines, structures, and equipment by doing any or all the following:
  2. Layout and perform work in connection with framing and rigging for poles, towers, and structures.
  3. Assist in digging and tamping pole holes; load, unload, set stud, and remove poles.
  4. Anticipate line technicians’ needs and supply them with proper tools, equipment and material.
  5. Ensure that all tools, equipment, and materials are returned to the truck.
  6. Makeup assemblies of all sizes, including installation of insulators, anchors, pulling and completing guys at the ground.
  7. Set and remove barricades, flags, and signs.
  8. Act as a flagger, when needed.
  9. Perform ground work in connection with stringing of conductors.
  10. Assist with the installation, maintenance, and repair of underground cable and new services.
  11. Keep job location in safe, clean, and neat condition.
  12. Cut right-of-way, trim trees, and spray vines if it’s under the neutral conductor when needed.
  13. Perform duties after hours when called out.
  14. Operates a forklift as needed.
  15. Load and unload material and equipment.
  16. Perform routine equipment maintenance.
  17. Reads and applies Cooperative polices, PRECO Safety Manual rules and the collective bargaining agreement to his/her job duties.
  18. Complete required forms in accordance with Cooperative procedures.
  19. Performs other duties as required or directed.
