A group program manager is responsible for organizing and coordinating various projects and programs to support the strategic direction of the group or organization. They supervise a team of program management personnel in the day-to-day operations to ensure the successful delivery of projects. They also develop solutions to program problems, ensure adherence to schedules and budgets, and is the first point of contact for program operation concerns.

A group program manager is part of the senior management. They work closely with developers, designers, and quality assurance engineers. A successful group program manager should have the relevant technical skills, leadership skills, analytical skills, attention to detail, time management skills, communication skills, and problem-solving skills.

Therapy program managers usually work regular hours of 40 hours a week. Sometimes they may be required to work late evenings and the weekends depending on the project deadlines.

A bachelor's in communication sciences and disorders can prepare you for three different tracks. First, it can prepare you to become a licensed Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA). This is someone who works under a fully credential speech-language pathologist. Often times, they carryout intervention plans developed by a fully credentialed speech-language pathologist. If graduate school is on your horizon, a bachelor's degree in communication sciences and disorders will prepare you for acceptance into a Speech-Language Pathology program, or an Audiology program. If you are not accepted into a graduate program right away, working as a speech-language pathology assistant (SLPA) is a great way to get experience in the field!

Group program manager reviews

Pros

I like to work with a team. Satisfaction of seeing the successful completion of a project

Cons

Strict deadlines, and stakeholders. Feeling undervalued or underappreciated.

Pros

I enjoy problem-solving and identifying a path to completing a complex project. I like to ensure that moving parts come together smoothly and communicating successes and celebrating with the team.

Cons

Without the right support from project sponsors, a project manager is doomed to failure. There is an enormous amount of responsibility on a project manager to deliver a product on time and on budget, though without proper authority or backing, it's basically wheel spinning.
