We're looking for an Underwriter, Terrorism, Fine Art & Special Risk - Latin America Based in Miami, and reporting to the SVP Underwriting Manager, Terrorism, Fine Art & Special Risk, this role will efficiently and profitably manage a diverse portfolio of business in Latin America. This role presents an excellent opportunity to develop technical underwriting skills within a specialist portfolio. We prefer to base the position in Miami, but we will consider a remote working location for appropriately qualified candidates. Hamilton International is our multi-platform, specialty insurer operating primarily through a Lloyd's Syndicate and Dublin operating company with a managing general agency in the US. We will only consider applicants eligible to work in the United States. What you will do Support the overall profitability and growth of the Terrorism, Fine Art & Special Risk lines of business Contribute to the development and execution of the underwriting strategy Build knowledge of the classes of business and all processes and systems involved Understand and comply with operational processes and procedures Ensure timely and accurate data entry to in-house submission recording and bound platforms, underwriting systems & pricing model Prepare, review, and process premium bookings for bound business Reconcile account premiums with monthly bordereaux Service account needs Liaise with the operations team for credit control and premium reconciliation purposes Maintain data storage, KPIs, claims and account records Produce ad hoc reports and presentations when required. Champion operational best practice, identifying opportunities for improvements in process, service, quality, and time taken to complete tasks. Any other tasks assigned by manager and deemed within the responsibilities of the role What you require for the role Essential previous experience in a similar role, preferably 5 years or more in Property, Marine and/or Personal lines of business. Prior experience in either broking and/or underwriting roles in Latin America, Miami or London markets. Fluent in both Spanish and English language Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (predominantly Excel, but also Outlook, and Word) Experience and comfort with high volume data entry Numerical aptitude & sharp attention to detail Strong communication skills and an ability to express ideas clearly, including good writing skills. Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities: · Provide loan structure guidance and apply analytical assistance to mitigate risks in relationships consistent with Ameris Bank loan policies. · Work with Relationship Manager and Regional Credit Officer in recommending appropriate structure, e.g., financial and non-financial covenants, and any special approval conditions. · Facilitate the receipt of financial updates on lending relationships. · Assist with the preparation of detailed analysis of borrower's financials for highly complexity new and renewal loans, and prepare Loan Committee approvals and updates as needed. · Prepare or assist in the preparation of concise, well-reasoned, credit memorandums to maintain timely administration of the loan portfolio. · Assist with the monitoring of the loan portfolio through report preparation and maintenance. · Perform financial covenant testing for borrowers. · Communicate material financial changes or covenant non-compliance within existing relationships to the Regional Credit Officer. · Prepare Market Studies and Annual Reviews as needed. · Manage all needed resources that will efficiently obtain the credit approval of loans requiring approvals above individual officer limits. · Assist with the presentation of loan requests to the respective committees for approval. · Work with Commercial Banking Assistants, Account Officers, and other providers to manage the closure and funding of loans. · Participate in business development efforts with Account Officers which would include prospect call support and identifying potential additional product needs during underwriting. · Exhibit a thorough understanding of the Ameris Bank credit culture and the terms and conditions under which loans should be presented and closed. · Maintain awareness of Ameris Bank products and services and how they can be offered to clients and prospects. Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies: · Strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on relationship building both internally and with Ameris clients and prospects. · Exceptional credit and analytical skills inclusive of extensive experience in the medium to large C&I/Middle Market space. · Highly developed communication skills including the ability to write clear and concise credit correspondence. · Capability to independently and proactively manage various relationships and effectively manage multiple priorities. · Ability to advocate persuasively. · Highly proficient in Moody's software and cash flow analyses. · Expertise in financial computer applications (primarily Microsoft Excel) and database management tools. Industry and Work Experience: · Minimum of 5 years' experience analyzing and/or structuring complex commercial loan transactions in a corporate lending environment and C&I and/or Middle Market space, including developing complex cash flows and analyses Academic: · An undergraduate degree is required with focus in the areas of finance, economics, or accounting preferred.
