The Gulf Coast Trades Center in New Waverly, Texas, aims to assist disadvantaged youth of the state of Texas in their social, vocational and academic development so they can contribute positively to society and remedy problems that may limit their potential career opportunities. Student life at the center is close-knit. Students reside together in small groups to develop positive social behaviors and receive peer support. They also receive privileges and positive recognition from the center for self-discipline and consistency, which is designed to further enforce good behavior. Academics at the center include individualized GED, vocational and driver's education training. Some of the vocational careers in which students may enroll include: * Automotive * Building Maintenance * Business Information Management * Horticulture * Milling and Cabinetmaking Admissions require students to be between 14 and 18 years of age, get a referral to the center by a state or county youth serving agency and demonstrate an ability to benefit from their vocational path of choice. Part of the orientation process includes a mandatory leadership class. Some offerings include Work Ethics and Leadership, Types of Leaders and Powers and Communication in the Leadership Role. To support its students, the center provides a number of personal services, including anger management, substance abuse counseling, medical care and counseling and case management. You get to work as much overtime as you want

Cons of working at Gulf Coast Trade Center

Management sucks. Admin sucks. They will save they own before the safety and protection of staff and students. Staff is Gossipy.

Pros of working at Gulf Coast Trade Center

The students. They are in need of love and support and guidance. Some want change and it’s up to you as staff to teach them the way. You get three days on three days off. It’s a law enforcement job with biweekly pay. Benefits are great at full time.

Nothing.

The amount of support and time admin and some staff put forth in these students. Drug testing all students 1 a week.
