GUND company history timeline

1898

The company was founded in 1898 by German immigrant, Adolph Gund, making Gund the oldest plush toy company in the United States.

1907

In 1907, a young Russian immigrant, Jacob Swedlin, took a modest job at Gund.

1925

When Adolph Gund retired in 1925 with no children of his own, he sold the business to Swedlin for a token sum.

1969

In 1969 after good 62 years in teddy business Jacob passed the company on to his daughter Rita Raiffe and her husband Herbert.

1977

In 1977, Bruce, the son of Herbert and Rita Raiffe, joined Gund Company.

2004

The first non-founding GUND member by the name of Jim Madison became President in 2004.
