The company was founded in 1898 by German immigrant, Adolph Gund, making Gund the oldest plush toy company in the United States.
In 1907, a young Russian immigrant, Jacob Swedlin, took a modest job at Gund.
When Adolph Gund retired in 1925 with no children of his own, he sold the business to Swedlin for a token sum.
In 1969 after good 62 years in teddy business Jacob passed the company on to his daughter Rita Raiffe and her husband Herbert.
In 1977, Bruce, the son of Herbert and Rita Raiffe, joined Gund Company.
The first non-founding GUND member by the name of Jim Madison became President in 2004.
