What You'll Do:
EMTs provide medical care and transportation for patients who are ill or injured. They should possess excellent patient service skills, the ability to work well under pressure, and the ability to make quick informed decisions about patient health. They are expected to be familiar with all onboard equipment, policies, and medical guidelines which pertain to their position. Major responsibilities include:
Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of, and compliance with, all Tri-State Ambulance policies and procedures
Demonstrate the attitude of a health care professional to include, but not be limited to: maintaining a clean appearance; demonstrating courteous, professional and ethical behavior; and demonstrating the ability to work cooperatively with other members of the EMS health care system
Demonstrate the skills and knowledge of a Nationally Registered EMT per the standards set forth by the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the State of Wisconsin, and the EMS medical director
Demonstrate a sincere desire to continually improve and upgrade the skills and knowledge of the emergencymedical profession
Demonstrate the ability to render competent patient care within the guidelines of Tri-State Ambulance
Demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to inspect, safely operate, and maintain an emergency vehicle, including possession of a current and valid driver's license, and demonstrate knowledge and compliance with all State laws pertaining to the safe operation of an emergency vehicle
Demonstrate the skills and knowledge required to inspect, safely operate, and maintain all equipment and tools relevant to an EMT
Demonstrate the ability to work with other members of the medical and public safety communities
Demonstrate the ability to accurately and completely document information required by Tri-State Ambulance, the State of Wisconsin, and local medical control
Demonstrate physical ability to perform all tasks required in the performance of duties as an EMT
Demonstrate the ability to clean and maintain the cleanliness of Tri-State Ambulance property, including, but not limited to, its vehicles, equipment, buildings and surrounding area(s)
Perform additional tasks as assigned by Tri-State Ambulance Operations Supervisors and management
What You'll Need:
High school diploma or general education degree
Completion of a qualified NREMT program with the ability to be licensed in Wisconsin and Minnesota
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to deal with problems involving several abstract and concrete variables in standardized situations
Good working knowledge of all policies and procedures including local, state, and federal guidelines
Must maintain current and valid Driver's License
ICS 100, 200, 700 completions
Must maintain current certification as a Certified Emergency Vehicle Operator (CEVO), or its equivalent
Must maintain current and valid Wisconsin, Minnesota and NREMT certification
Must maintain current and valid CPR (Health Care Provider) certification, or its equivalent

What You'll Do
Provide direct patient care to individuals of all ages experiencing illness or trauma requiring emergency attention

Initiate life-saving interventions including advanced airway management, ventilation support, oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, cardioversion, defibrillation, and pacing
Continuously monitor patient status and communicate changes to providers and nursing staff
Explain procedures and treatments to patients and families to promote understanding and ease concerns
Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary team members
Assist with patient care in the Med/Surg unit within scope of practice (excluding admissions and shift assessments)
Restock supplies and maintain readiness of clinical areas
Maintain a safe, compliant work environment by following standard precautions and hazardous waste procedures
Uphold patient, employee, and organizational confidentiality
Participate in training, meetings, and professional development opportunities
Demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude, including assisting with tasks outside the routine job description when needed
Requirements
National Standard Paramedic Certification through the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of EMS
Critical Care Paramedic endorsement preferred or willingness to obtain after hire

Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Maintains a specialty cart or item, ensuring its completeness and availability. This includes checking the working condition of equipment, sterility, and sending damaged items out for repair.
Acts as a resource and precepts Surgical Technologists I and/or participates in department or facility committees or work teams.
Performs various patient positioning and transporting duties, which require lifting and pushing/pulling, while utilizing proper technique.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures. Age-specific information is developed further in the departmental job standards.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
• Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.
Education Required:
• Completion of an accredited or approved program in Surgical Technology.
Experience Required:
• Typically requires 2 years of experience in a Surgical Technologist position.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
Completion of a suturing class approved by supervisor.
Proficient in all surgical specialties with expertise in a minimum of two.
Advanced knowledge and skill of aseptic surgical techniques used in the preparation of materials, supplies and equipment for various surgical procedures and suturing.
Demonstrated ability to anticipate and recognize physician's needs and changes that require unplanned or unanticipated interventions and respond appropriately.
Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
Basic computer proficiency.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Must be able to withstand a very stressful and fast-paced environment.
Must be able to:
lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
lift up to 20 lbs. over the head.
carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
Must be able to:
push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
Required to use foot pedals on carts or machines.
Exposed to the following hazards on a continuous basis: mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood and body fluids.
Must have functional sight and hearing.
Required to wear masks, gloves, goggles, and gowns.
Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders and twist frequently during work shift.
Must be able to operate all equipment essential to performing the duties of the job.
