    GW, a leading publishing vendor, is actively recruiting freelance proofreaders for academic and professional journals and books, with a concentration in the health science industries. Freelance proofreading assignments are made on a project-by-project basis, and we have a steady flow of projects all year long. This is an ideal freelance, remote position for applicants who are based in the United States. Project schedules vary, but most projects require proofreading 100-200 pages per week. We are looking for freelancers who are committed to staying both on budget and on schedule-critical components to ensure that we provide quality services to our clients. Your main responsibilities would include: Proofreading PDF files to check for correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation Ensuring that the book's word style sheet has been followed, especially with regard to consistency in abbreviations, acronyms, drug dosages, spelling, units of measure, and use of specific terms Checking for visual problems (e.g., tabs, alignment, consistency of fonts and spacing, loose/tight lines, widows, orphans, and bad breaks) Checking reference lists for completeness, correct spelling, etc. Copying and pasting all text from PDF files into Microsoft Word and performing a medical spell check What we are looking for in candidates: You have experience proofreading textbooks or journals. You are well versed in following AMA, CMS, and/or APA style. You have a strong handle on Adobe Acrobat and its features, including marking up PDF files. You take pride in meeting deadlines. Delays during the proofreading process can severely affect the publisher's ability to keep their project on schedule. You can work efficiently. As a vendor, we must work within the pre-defined budgets set by our clients, so the ability to work efficiently is vital. Technical requirements include: Adobe Acrobat/Acrobat Reader Microsoft Word (Mac or Windows) A medical spell checker installed on the computer ( if helpful, we can recommend medical spell checkers available for purchase from outside vendors ) To qualify: Submit a resume and cover letter that includes examples of nursing or medical projects you have proofread. Your main responsibilities would include: Typecoding the manuscript for the compositor Correcting all spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors Editing content to match AMA style Ensuring consistency in word style throughout Cross-checking all table, figure, and box citations against the actual tables, figures, and boxes Ensuring all references (if any) are cited in the text You would not interact with the authors. Qualifications: Experience editing textbooks or journals Strong proficiency in AMA style Robust knowledge of Microsoft Word including familiarity with Track Changes, formatting tables, and application or removal of styles. Position: Carpenter (Forms Carpenter) Reports to: Foreman or Superintendent Job Type: Full-time, Union Job Summary: The Carpenter supports heavy civil construction projects by building, installing, and repairing wooden and concrete formwork, structures, and frameworks used in bridges, roadways, and other infrastructure. This role is responsible for reading plans, measuring and cutting materials, assembling formwork, and ensuring accuracy and quality in construction. Carpenters play a vital part in creating safe, durable structures while working closely with project teams to meet specifications and deadlines. Qualifications and Requirements: · Experience as a carpenter on heavy civil construction projects (preferred). · Understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction. · Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, rulers). · OSHA 10 certification. · Ability and willingness to work at heights and outdoors in various weather conditions. · Ability to walk, stand, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, sit, climb, work in challenging environments and on uneven surfaces, and perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials (up to 50 pounds). · Ability to remain alert and see, hear, and respond to team members and the surrounding environment in highly safety sensitive working conditions and near large heavy civil equipment and/or live traffic. · High school diploma or equivalent. · Excellent teamwork, communication skills and ability to follow instructions. · Reliable transportation to and from construction sites. · Commitment to maintaining a safe working environment for yourself and others.
