Soon to become known as “Virtualville”, www.gwinnettpl.org was established as the official website and online branch of the library system. It was also in 1996 that the library system began offering Internet access, including access to Georgia’s virtual library, GALILEO, at all branches.
In 1997, Gwinnett County Public Library removed Nancy Friday's bestseller Women On Top from its collection after two patrons complained about its sexual content.
In 1999, the GCPL's tenth branch opened at Collins Hill.
With the opening of the Sharon Forks branch in November 2000, the Forsyth County Public Library gained a second service location, expanded resources, and additional staff.
In 2000, GCPL went on to win this national honor.
In 2000 the library system was again among finalists for library of the year, and at this point won.
During 2002, circulation in Forsyth County reached one million items.
In summer 2002 the system opened the Centerville branch.
The branch opened to the public on Saturday, October 28, 2006.
In 2007, an Administrative Office building was constructed next to the Cumming Branch.
On April 24th, 2010 the Hamilton Mill branch opened to the public and on May 8, 2010 celebrated the official opening ceremonies and ribbon-cutting.
The Post Road Library opened in August 2013, marking the Forsyth County Public Library's fourth location.
Anna began her new duties in December 2015.
Jon McDaniel, Forsyth County Public Library's first Director, retired in 2015 with special recognition from the Board of Trustees and from the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners.
On October 18, 2016, the City of Lilburn, Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners, and Gwinnett County Public Library hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of a shared facility that houses Lilburn City Hall and a new Lilburn Branch.
In 2018, voters approved SPLOST VIII, which will fund in part a branch in the southwest part of Forsyth County, off Fowler Road.
In May 2020, Forsyth County Public Library began offering Contact-Free Curbside Pickup to provide service to its patrons during the Coronavirus pandemic.
In the fiscal year ending on June 30, 2020, there were more than 500,000 visits to library branches and more than 2.3 million items checked out.
