1980

The 192-page Love in the Mortar Joints: The Story of Habitat for Humanity was the result, published by New Win Publishing in August 1980.

1984

1984: Former president Jimmy Carter joins Habitat.

1985

In 1985 modern urban dwelling is the height of cool and, accordingly, Habitat launches its 'City Living' collection.

1991

In 1991, the first Habitat for Humanity ReStore was launched in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

1992

The first Habitat for Humanity ReStore opened in Austin, Texas, in 1992 as a means to sell donated building material that went unused at Habitat for Humanity construction sites.

1993

Onward Christian Soldiers: 1993--97

As the 17th largest home builder in the United States in 1993, according to Builder magazine, Fuller wanted Habitat to rise to the top slot within three years.

1994

Habitat celebrates its 30th birthday in 1994 with a major exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum: Selling Lifestyle, 30 Years of Habitat.

Accolades for Habitat came in 1994 when the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) named the organization as the Non-Profit Organization of the Year.

1995

Habitat also managed a one-million-plus mailing list, which grew with increased exposure, such as when Fuller was named Builder of the Year by Professional Builder magazine in 1995.

1996

1996: Millard Fuller receives the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

1997

That's cold comfort,' Fuller later told Kelly Starling of Ebony magazine in 1997.

By 1997 Habitat had become the fourth largest homebuilder in the world and the nation's number one nonprofit homebuilder.

1997: Habitat builds 60,000th home; now operates in 54 countries.

1999

1999: Millard is named one of the most influential homebuilders in the 20th century by Builder magazine.

2000

2000: Habitat, operating in 65 countries, builds 100,000th home.

2002

In May 2002 Habitat announces an evolutionary change to its famous word mark, by adding a symbol depicting the 'heart within the home'.

2003

Habitat for Humanity East Bay opened the first Bay Area ReStore in 2003 in Oakland.

2004

In 2004 the VIP (Very Important Products) collection makes its mark with 22 products designed by a series of experts and famous names.

2005

For the shorter term, however, Habitat will settle for their 200,000th home built by the year 2005, and having housed over 475,000 people internationally.

The Fullers had big plans for the new century: to construct an additional 100,000 houses by 2005.

2013

In 2013, two Habitat affiliates merged to form Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley.

2015

In 2015, Habitat EBSV opened two new locations in Santa Clara and Concord.

2016

On January 15th, 2016, Habitat SKC relocated the SODO Store south to its current location in Southcenter.

2017

In 2017, the Sainsbury’s Group acquire the UK arm of the brand, along with Argos.

2018

The doors are open! In 2018, two new flagship Habitat stores open in Brighton and Westfield White City in London.
