The Clinical Research Nurse is responsible for coordinating and overseeing clinical research operations for all assigned clinical trials and participates in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating Compliant Patient Care in clinical research trials. The Clinical Research Nurse carries out the research and works under the general supervision of the principal investigator responsible for the clinical trials.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Clinical Research Nurse at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
* Assists the principal investigator in the preparation of proposed clinical trials by reviewing trial protocol, contacting each department who will provide resources during study and ensuring appropriate departments are notified and given a copy of proposed trial, scientific merit and accrual potential.
* Assures that all protocol revisions, informed consents, continuing reviews, serious adverse events are submitted to the appropriate IRB of record in a timely manner.
* Acts as liaison between principal investigators and sub-investigators on all regulatory issues and changes within the protocol.
* Interacts with regulatory specialists and principal investigators and sub-investigators on all regulatory issues and changes within the protocol.
* In collaboration with the principal investigator, clinical research coordinator, and clinical team, participates in the review of studies for feasibility and evaluates potential competition with other protocols prior to submitting study.
* Reviews study with principal investigator and/or clinical research coordinator to a budget outlining standard of care and research costs. Finalizes budget draft with budget coordinator.
* Recruits and evaluates potential study patients, and works with clinical research coordinator to schedule required appointments and interviews.
* Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
* Reviews medical records for potential study patients and ensures that medical records include documentation of all laboratory test results and procedures and progress of study patients, following guidelines set forth by the protocol sponsors.
* 10. Instructs potential study patients, designated caregiver, physicians, nurse clinicians and other ancillary staff members involved in the care of the patient on aspects of patient's care, available trials, treatments and side effects.
* Assists investigator with consent process assuring study patients understand clinical trials and obtains written informed consent.
* Educates study patients concerning informed consent procedures, HIPAA authorization.
* Documents study patient's medical history including but not limited to past medical/surgical treatments, significant medical conditions, and medication history per protocol guidelines.
* Performs nursing assessments and monitors study patient's progress during clinical trials; Tracks study patient's response by documenting on toxicity flow sheet, medication flow sheet and nurses progress notes.
* Maintains accurate, complete, up-to-date records on each patient participating in a clinical trial protocol in all applicable systems (i.e. electronic medical record, clinical trial management system, departmental and protocol specific databases).
* Evaluates and develops study patient education materials and gives study patient and/or designated caregiver instructions on drug administration and other medical information; creates study specific calendars for study patients.
* Plans for study patient's appropriate care under the direction of a physician or advanced practice nurse.
* Notifies principal investigator of any adverse events and serious adverse events, including evidence of drug toxicity or unexpected side effects.
* Reports all serious adverse events to sponsor and IRB of record according to established timelines.
* Coordinates research activities not limited to: scheduling laboratory tests, radiology testing and other medical exams.
* Performs and/or oversees a variety of clinical duties that may include but not limited to: EKGs, processing/shipping of blood serum, urine and communicates results to PI and/or APN.
* Together with the principal investigator, reviews and processes all Safety Reports (INDs, SUGARs) as per institutional policies and procedures.
* Acts as principal investigator's representative as appropriate. This may include, but not limited to, communicating with sponsors and their representatives, the IRB and other medical personnel.
* Maintains accurate, complete, up-to-date records on each patient participating in a clinical trial protocol.
* Ensures study patient's clinical trial related activities are billed appropriately and reconciles drug study account records with research finance personnel.
* Prepares and assists for sponsor monitor site visits and ensures all supporting documentation records are adequate and available for the visit; Meets with monitor at least once during each monitor site visit and resolves all issues found during visit.
* Develops case report forms and/or databases for physician initiated studies as needed.
* Assists the principal investigator in preparing for publication. Works with analysts and assists with queries related to data to evaluate the significance of collected data.
* Provides education to all departments and clinical areas where study is performed.
* Attends research meetings and conferences as required.
* Participates in staff meetings and in-service education of nursing and medical staff.
* Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
* Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* BSN required. (Note: this applies to team members hired or transferred on or after March 31, 2024. Team members hired or transferred prior to March 31, 2024 require a minimum of an associate in Nursing or diploma of Nursing degree.)
* Minimum of 3 years clinical nursing experience or 1 year of clinical nursing experience with an additional 2 years of clinical research experience.
* Adheres to the American Nurses Association standards.
* Strong attention to detail and customer service focus is required.
* Excellent communication, organizational, presentation, documentation, and interpersonal skills are required.
* Ability to work independently, or in a team, and handle multiple deadline driven tasks in a dynamic environment is essential.
* Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.

Starting at $111,924.80 Annually

Performs all maintenance functions to ensure safe, clean, comfortable and functioning patient rooms and interior/exterior environment. Responsible for maintaining all equipment, monitoring work orders and adhering to all regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Maintenance Mechanic at Hackensack Meridian
Health
includes:
Act as a liaison for new construction projects, meets and coordinates with vendors, assists with technical designs and planned utility shutdowns.
Maintains construction project turnover document files. Maintains all logs, shift reports, PM`s, work order closeouts and shift service reports to include on-line data entry. Changes in operational conditions and down-time situations must be communicated in a timely manner.
Maintains patient environment of care, room meets the requirements of the checklist, proactive to customer needs. Demonstrate the ability to maintain, operate and repair all equipment.
Performs all interior environment of care maintenance: changing of bulbs, ballasts, switches, outlets etc., plunging of toilets and sinks, nurse call repairs, repair holes inwalls, painting, changing ceiling tiles, and moving furniture.
Maintains PM schedule with prescribed programmed checklist, PM`s completed on time within schedule. Follows up on any additional work required as a result of the inspection in a timely manner.
Renders assistance during emergency situations. Arrives to all fire and/or emergencies with an acceptable time frame with correct equipment. Identifies anything that could negatively affect the safety and well-being of others.
Requisitions for all parts and equipment are written out completely and accurately. Inventory is maintained on site at correct levels.
Maintains a safe and clean work environment. All work must be conducted under OSHA standards and all proper personal protective equipment.
Maintains all Joint Commission and State documentation. Responds to phone calls and messages as required.
Maintains Joint Commission part 4 Log Book compliance.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Thorough knowledge of supplies, equipment, ordering process.
Excellent mechanical aptitude.
3 to 5 years Maintenance experience.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
Previous maintenance experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
Painting, plumbing, mechanical, heating/ac experience.
High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
Ability to direct staff and keep projects on schedule.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:

Short Description
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, perform a variety of general, HVAC, Plumbing, and basic electrical/ repair preventive maintenance duties, repair and overhaul equipment and facilities of the Hospital. Assure compliance with all Hospital policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, environmental and infectious control and all regulatory requirements.
Duties:
Perform carpentry and other related maintenance duties.
Comply with all codes & requirements of accreditations and regulatory agencies.
Perform preventive maintenance and repairs as related to the construction trades.
Ability to use ladders, scaffolding and or mechanical lifts.
Assist other trades personnel as needed.
Maintain all required records, reports and statistics.
Maintain department supplies, equipment and work areas.

Attend in-services and other meetings as required.

A day in the life of a Maintenance Mechanic at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
* Act as a liaison for new construction projects, meets and coordinates with vendors, assists with technical designs and planned utility shutdowns.
* Maintains construction project turnover document files. Maintains all logs, shift reports, PM`s, work order closeouts and shift service reports to include on-line data entry. Changes in operational conditions and down-time situations must be communicated in a timely manner.
* Maintains patient environment of care, room meets the requirements of the checklist, proactive to customer needs. Demonstrate the ability to maintain, operate and repair all equipment.
* Performs all interior environment of care maintenance: changing of bulbs, ballasts, switches, outlets etc., plunging of toilets and sinks, nurse call repairs, repair holes inwalls, painting, changing ceiling tiles, and moving furniture.
* Maintains PM schedule with prescribed programmed checklist, PM`s completed on time within schedule. Follows up on any additional work required as a result of the inspection in a timely manner.
* Renders assistance during emergency situations. Arrives to all fire and/or emergencies with an acceptable time frame with correct equipment. Identifies anything that could negatively affect the safety and well-being of others.
* Requisitions for all parts and equipment are written out completely and accurately. Inventory is maintained on site at correct levels.
* Maintains a safe and clean work environment. All work must be conducted under OSHA standards and all proper personal protective equipment.
* Maintains all Joint Commission and State documentation. Responds to phone calls and messages as required.
* Maintains Joint Commission part 4 Log Book compliance.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* Thorough knowledge of supplies, equipment, ordering process.
* Excellent mechanical aptitude.
* 3 to 5 years Maintenance experience.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
* Previous maintenance experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.

Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Maintenance Mechanic at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
* Act as a liaison for new construction projects, meets and coordinates with vendors, assists with technical designs and planned utility shutdowns.
* Maintains construction project turnover document files. Maintains all logs, shift reports, PM`s, work order closeouts and shift service reports to include on-line data entry. Changes in operational conditions and down-time situations must be communicated in a timely manner.
* Maintains patient environment of care, room meets the requirements of the checklist, proactive to customer needs. Demonstrate the ability to maintain, operate and repair all equipment.
* Performs all interior environment of care maintenance: changing of bulbs, ballasts, switches, outlets etc., plunging of toilets and sinks, nurse call repairs, repair holes inwalls, painting, changing ceiling tiles, and moving furniture.
* Maintains PM schedule with prescribed programmed checklist, PM`s completed on time within schedule. Follows up on any additional work required as a result of the inspection in a timely manner.
* Renders assistance during emergency situations. Arrives to all fire and/or emergencies with an acceptable time frame with correct equipment. Identifies anything that could negatively affect the safety and well-being of others.
* Requisitions for all parts and equipment are written out completely and accurately. Inventory is maintained on site at correct levels.
* Maintains a safe and clean work environment. All work must be conducted under OSHA standards and all proper personal protective equipment
* Maintains all Joint Commission and State documentation. Responds to phone calls and messages as required.
* Maintains Joint Commission part 4 Log Book compliance.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* Thorough knowledge of supplies, equipment, ordering process.
* Excellent mechanical aptitude.
* 3 to 5 years Maintenance experience.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficient computer skills including but not limited to Microsoft Office and Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
* Previous maintenance experience in a healthcare environment is preferred.
* Painting, plumbing, mechanical, heating/ac experience.
* High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
* Ability to direct staff and keep projects on schedule.
Licenses and Certifications Preferred:
* Black Seal Boiler License.

Can operate correctly all machinery associated with the Decontamination and Processing area and identify problems when necessary.
Checks expiration dates on sterile items.: Checks for outdated items and takes appropriate action if discovered
Demonstrates proper phone etiquette.: Uses proper procedure with callers on the business unit and OR Hotline phones in a courteous and efficient manner.
Makes daily soil rounds of the medical units.: Performs daily soil rounds, visiting all required areas and returns all items to SPD for processing.
Performs functions in Decontamination area.: Responsible for cleaning the instruments, trays and carts. Performs decontamination duties without direction. Has the ability to control the workflow in the Decontamination area.
Records all processed loads and keeps accurate records.: Accurately enters information into record books required to track processed loads. Records Biological indicators into required logs and places Biological indicators into the proper incubator to be processed.
Responsible for SPD department stock.: Puts away supplies in the SPD department and rotates stock as needed. Duties are performed with reasonable speed and definite accuracy.
Responsible for the daily operations of the business unit in the Supervisor's absence.: Demonstrates ability to take charge and appropriately assigns team members in the interest of business unit and ultimately patient care.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Lifts a minimum of 5 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 5 lbs. and stands a minimum of 1 hour a day.

* Records all processed loads and keeps accurate records. Accurately enters information into record books required to track processed loads. Records Biological indicators into required logs and places Biological indicators into the proper incubator to be processed.
* Responsible for SPD department stock. Puts away supplies in the SPD department and rotates stock as needed. Duties are performed with reasonable speed and definite accuracy.
* Responsible for the daily operations of the business unit in the Supervisor's absence. Demonstrates ability to take charge and appropriately assigns team members in the interest of business unit and ultimately patient care.

Assures certification in Basic Life Support is current. Assures Annual Basic Training is completed. Attends CPR certification course /maintains renewal. Completes ABT annually.
Maintains open communication with OR Service Coordinator, Assistant Nurse Manager, OR Staff, Surgeons, Anesthesia staff, SPD Dept and Nursing Units Demonstrates knowledge of radio operation Responds to calls in a timely fashion. Calls the OR to communicate delays, issues. Uses proper etiquette when speaking on the radio.
Completes assignments in a timely manner. Sub Sterile Rooms are maintained and stocked. Specimens are sent according to OR Policy times. Stocks surgical supplies when needed.
Demonstrates knowledge of specialized equipment in the OR and assists staff with set up in OR Rooms. Handles equipment with care. Attends In-Services for new equipment. Reports problems to Supervisor/Charge Nurse/Coordinators or Manager Returns all equipment to proper place. Keeps equipment clean after use.
Demonstrates initiative and ability to function independently. Seeks direction when indicated. Independently offers solutions to potential/real problems. Demonstrates ability to be 'On Call' on weekends and holidays.
Monitors Biological Testing for Autoclave units. Demonstrates knowledge of Autoclave function and policies. Maintains proper documentation of B/I tests.
Completes assigned task of specimen delivery to Lab. Assures delivery to lab at set times when assigned.
Demonstrates the ability to care for patients by providing safe Transportation to the OR. Identifies self and department when approaching patient. Speaks in a polite and professional manner. Assures Patient Identification policy is followed. Follows HMH HIPAA Policy in assuring patient confidentiality. Demonstrates knowledge of function of unit beds, Stretchers, and is sensitive to patients comfort and safety needs at all times. Communicates problems or concerns to the nurse receiving patient.
Assists in maintaining a clean and safe OR environment. Demonstrates knowledge of universal precautions in the OR setting. Demonstrates proficiency at cleaning rooms between cases. Wears gloves appropriately and washes hands when gloves are removed. Efficiently terminally cleans rooms when assigned and operates the ultraviolet light equipment effectively. Documents Turn Over Room Sheet when completed. Cleans room according to AORN guidelines. Returns basic OR equipment to correct location. Knowledge of Biohazard waste handling. Washes hands appropriately. Assists nursing staff whenever necessary. Reports equipment that is out of order. Sub Sterile Rooms are maintained and stocked.
