The Research Specialist will be working in the lab of Andrew Nelson performing research in the study of preclinical models for drug development. The research will include work with microbiological assays and preclinical models of infectious disease, cancer, and/or surgery applied in the context of evaluating the efficacy of novel therapeutics. The Center for Discovery and Innovation- CDI was established by Hackensack Meridian Health (HMH) as an academic basic and translational research enterprise to rapidly translate science innovation to the clinic and to improve outcomes for patients with cancer, infectious diseases, autoimmune disease and other acute and chronic diseases. The CDI has grown rapidly since its origins in 2019, and now has 32 labs, 190 scientists and allied personnel supported by 60 NIH grants and more than 30 other grants and contracts. Areas of expertise include genomics, epigenetics, drug resistance, stem cell biology, drug discovery, diagnostics and biomarker development, and pharmacology.
Responsibilities
A day in the life of a Research Specialist, Center for Discovery and Innovation- CDI at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
* Performs general laboratory functions including but not limited to equipment maintenance and restocking.
* Assists in designing and performing experiments and data analysis.
* Maintains accurate notes and records of all research performed.
* Performs data collection and interpretation of results.
* Creates reports from analysis of initial observations and conclusions.
* Establishes experimental protocols, design and documentation.
* Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the lab.
* Recommends changes to the lab practices and procedures.
* Uses necessary equipment to perform studies.
* Maintains lab space.
* Learns about and shares with laboratory members the latest advances in laboratory techniques being used.
* Communicates issues to the Principal Investigator, Laboratory Manager or Department Chair.
* Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
* Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent training.
* Minimum of 1 or more years of experience.
* Ability to work independently and have a strong work ethic.
* Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
* Flexible in work schedule. Must be available to occasionally come to the laboratory on a weekend day or stay late for a given experiment.
* Lab specific technical skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
* B.Sc. or Master's degree.
* Experience working in a BSL2/BSL3 lab facility.

Reporting to the RUBIC Director, the MRI Research Technologist will set up research scanning protocols, scan subjects, support research activities, and provide oversight, support, and quality control for the Siemens TRIO and PRISMA scanners and peripheral equipment. RUBIC is a state-of-the-art MRI facility that enables Rutgers researchers, as well as researchers from other institutions and industry across the region, to conduct a wide variety of studies.
This position is responsible for and not limited to the following.
* Provides support and expertise in operating and helping to design, select, and provision MR protocols for Principal Investigators (PIs) using the scanners and peripheral equipment.

The Center for Health Services Research (CHSR) of the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy and Aging Research, a unit of Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences (RBHS), invites applications from Health Services Researchers with health care delivery and/or policy research experience or training for faculty positions within a multidisciplinary research group with a strong program of studies on the use and outcomes of health services, with particular strength in research on Medicaid and Medicare beneficiaries; behavioral health services research; substance use, treatment and outcomes; and mental health treatment for children, the elderly, and those with severe mental illness. The primary purpose of the Research Teaching Specialist V position, under the direction of the Principal Investigator, is to perform research activities requiring the application of standard techniques and procedures in tumor immunology. This includes designing and executing cutting edge experiments investigating different treatments, including both pharmacologic and genetic interventions, in primary T cells and evaluating their anti-tumor efficacy both in vitro and in vivo as directed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
* As directed, conducts research experiments to understand the role of metabolism in regulating T cell differentiation and the immune response, with mechanistic explorations to unveil new therapeutic strategies.
* As directed, works effectively with primary T cells in vitro with downstream functional analyses by flow cytometry.
* Performs general lab maintenance tasks such as making buffers and plates for lab use and mouse genotyping by PCR and gel electrophoresis.
* Monitors tumor growth in mice by bioluminescence imaging and/or caliper measurements.

Learns about and shares with laboratory members the latest advances in laboratory techniques being used.
Communicates issues to the Principal Investigator, Laboratory Manager or Department Chair.
Other duties and/or projects as assigned.

Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent training.
Minimum of 1 or more years of experience.
Ability to work independently and have a strong work ethic.
Ability to work well with others in a team environment.
Flexible in work schedule. Must be available to occasionally come to the laboratory on a weekend day or stay late for a given experiment.
Lab specific technical skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
B.Sc. or Master's degree.
Experience working in a BSL2/BSL3 lab facility.
Experience with small animal handling.
Other lab specific.
