The Level II Surgical Technologist assists the CAP Care Coordinator and the CAP Educator to maintain instrumentation. He/she is also responsible for cleaning and handling instruments following standard policies while maintaining updated records. This position requires 24 hours, 7 days a week accountability.
Responsibilities
1. Assists the Level III RN coordinator and/or educator with inventory, instrumentation, and inservice education.
2. Oversees the orientation for new Surgical Technologists I.
3. Follows policy in standardization of set-ups and utilization of surgeon preference and assumes responsibility for the care and proper handling of instruments by neatly organizing all instrumentation before returning to decontamination room and returning all clean supplies to designated areas.
4. Maintains count of sponges, needles, instruments and administrates and labels medications all accordingly to established policy.
5. Handles specimens according to O.R. Policy and Procedures.
6. Controls contamination and provides for decontamination, disinfections, sterilization and sanitation of instruments and equipment.
7. Removes used equipment and properly disposes of contaminated needles and syringes at end of procedures.
8. Participates in team conference to plan care and evaluates effectiveness of patient care and assists circulator in revising plan of care.
9. Maintains ST skills proficiency checklist up to date by checking off equipment and cases, circulating or scrub when rotated through specialty areas.
10. Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, language, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.). This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.).
11. Adheres to the standards identified in the Medical Center's Organizational Competencies.
Qualifications
Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
* High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technologist Program or appropriate training program.
Proficient in two services (e.g. Neurology, Urology, Ortho, etc.) and precept in one.
A minimum of two years experience as a surgical technologist.
Compensation
Minimum rate of $30.45 Hourly

Under the direction of a Registered Nurse (RN), assists with patients' activities of daily living and plan of care.

Overview
Pavilion-8, an Intermediate surgical and medical surgical unit with 30 single rooms and the capacity to be a complete intermediate unit, is genuinely committed to providing extraordinary patient care. Our surgical services include ENT, Vascular, Plastic Surgery, Colorectal Surgery, Surgical oncology, and Urology. Our leadership structure, comprised of a clinical director, an assistant clinical director, clinical nurse managers, and a clinical educator, is dedicated to supporting our staff and patient safety.
Pavilion-8 is supported by our unit secretaries, critical care technicians, and registered nurses seven days a week. We work towards having all of our nurses' cross-trained in surgical intermediate within the first year at Cooper.
Pavilion-8 fosters a close relationship with our providers, as our APN's and Surgical Residents are easily accessible for support, questions, and directions with patient care. They have offices right here on the unit, along with our leadership team and our transitional care team.

The unit is staffed with registered nurses, critical care technicians, trauma surgery nurse practitioners and resident physicians. Staff also work closely with respiratory therapy and specialized surgical groups such as orthopedics and neurosurgery. Nurses and critical care technicians working in this area receive education specific to the care of the trauma patient.

The Labor and Delivery unit has 6 labor rooms, 1 treatment room, and 2 high risk maternal advanced care beds. There are also 2 designated operating rooms and 2 PACU bays. The unit specializes in labor and delivery of uncomplicated and high-risk pregnancies. The Obstetrical Triage unit consists of 7 triage bays as well as 2 non-stress test chairs. Any patient 16 weeks pregnant or greater to 6 weeks post-partum is seen in OB Triage. Patients are seen for various complaints as well as for iron/blood infusions, and Rhogam injections.
Experience Required
1 year of Surgical Technologist experience is preferred.

Education Requirements
Graduate of a nationally or regionally accredited educational program for Surgical Technologists.
License/Certification Requirements
Certified Surgical Technologist Credential administered by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or its successor, or other nationally recognized credentialing organization (e.g. NCCT - National Center for Competency Testing, etc.)
Special Requirements
Mon-Fri with on-call requirement for nights/weekends
Must annually complete 15 hours of continuing education to remain qualified to practice as a Surgical Technologist in NJ.

**The OR Surgical First Assist NP/RNFA-Per Diem utilizes a patient-centered coordinated care model, demonstrating competencies in leadership, direct clinical practice, consultation/collaboration, coaching/guiding, research, and ethical decision-making. The APN works collaboratively with the practice/hospital team to assess, plan, and implement care for individuals with health and safety needs.**
**This position is for the Operating Room. The Nurse Practitioner will also need to hold a RN First Assist Certification.**
**Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
+ **Educational Background:** Must be a graduate of an NLN/AACN accredited nursing program, holding a Master's or Doctorate degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
+ **Clinical Competency:** Demonstrated commitment to maintaining clinical skills and knowledge through ongoing continuing education and active clinical practice.
+ **Relevant Experience:** Proven experience in a pertinent patient care setting, in accordance with all applicable regulations.
+ **Communication Proficiency:** Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills.
+ **Technical Skills:** Proficient in computer use, including but not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
**Required Licenses and Certifications:**
+ **State Licensure:** Must hold a current and valid NJ State Professional Registered Nurse License and an Advance Practice Nurse License.
+ **National Certification:** Board certification from the AANP or ANCC is mandatory.
+ **Prescriptive Authority:** Must possess active prescriptive authority, including CDS and DEA registration as required by New Jersey state law.
+ **Physician Collaboration:** A collaborative agreement with physicians on staff must be in place.
+ **Life Support Certification:** Requires a current BLS AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
+ **Surgical Certification:** A Registered Nurse First Assist (RNFA) certification is required.
