Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Perform field and on-site laboratory tests on soil, geosynthetics, and other materials primarily associated with landfill and/or waste containment system construction;
Perform in-place moisture-density results to verify project compaction requirements are met;

* Oversee geologic site characterization including subsurface explorations, monitoring well siting and construction, soil vapor probe installation, field sampling and waste management.
* Support and lead project teams with the interpretation, evaluation, and summarization of geologic data to make decisions for the project.
* Independently complete basic geologic data reduction, summarization and synthesis and provide project teams with concise summaries that include evaluation and proposed next steps.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE
Minimum Skills and Requirements:
* Bachelor's degree in Geology or related field.
* 4+ years of related experience.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be proficient at writing technical reports to meet project requirements.
* Able to work independently on individual tasks supporting technical work and exhibit the ability to manage tasks and perform work on multiple projects or multiple tasks simultaneously.
* Desire to learn and grow in your profession, demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, resourcefulness, flexibility, and ownership.
* Proficiency with use of Microsoft Office Suite software.
* Able to meet the physical requirements of the position: lift 50 lbs., traverse unstable/sloping sites and landscapes, work outside in a range of weather conditions, and have the stamina for moderate physical activity for the majority of field working hours.
* Able to travel to work locations that may require overnight stays.
Preferred Skills:
* Master's degree in Geology or related field.
* Professional certification or planning to obtain professional certification, as applicable to the discipline.

The salary range for this position in Boston, MA is $70,000 - $85,000 annually. Actual compensation will be based upon a variety of factors such as education, related work experience, certificates, skills, and current market conditions. The successful candidate should have a strong academic record, solid understanding of civil engineering fundamentals, and a desire to work on a variety of exciting and challenging projects both in the office and in the field. Assignments will likely be focused on coastal projects, but will also span a variety of infrastructure, real estate/building development, and energy projects. Previous work experience is preferred but not required. Strong work ethic and communication skills are highly valued.

Primary Responsibilities:
Executing subsurface exploration and in-situ testing programs to evaluate soil and bedrock conditions
Performing field construction observation during installation of soft (nature-based) and hard shoreline protection/stabilization measures and other coastal projects, shallow and deep foundation installation and testing, environmental sampling and monitoring, and other diverse projects.
Assisting with topographic and bathymetric survey as well as condition assessment of waterfront structures.
Evaluating field data and performing engineering analyses/calculations.
Writing field summary reports, drafts of field and engineering reports, technical specifications, and other technical documents.
Preparing construction cost/quantity estimates.
Assisting with submittal reviews and requests for information during construction.
Communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors, clients, and team members.
Qualifications:
BS degree in Civil Engineering (MS Degree is a plus).
1+ years of professional work experience is preferred.
Effective communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
Strong attention to detail with excellent analytical capabilities.
Experience with numerical modeling, AutoCad and GIS preferred.
Ability to work independently or in a team setting.
Ability to work locally and regionally. Candidate must possess a valid driver's license in good standing and have a consistent means of transportation to/from project sites.
Familiarity with coastal processes and small boat operation is preferred.
EIT certificate or ability to obtain within a year. Desire to obtain Professional Engineer registration.
The base salary for this position may range between $70,000 and $90,000. The actual base salary and total compensation will depend on many factors, including location, candidate experience, education, professional licensure, and other qualifications.
