CIVIL SENIOR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER JOB SUMMARY As a California licensed PE, responsible for project management (scope, schedule, budget, and business development), preparing engineering reports and analyses, designing, and preparing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for a variety of Public Works/Water Resources projects. Assignments include mentoring less-experienced team members. In this role, the Project Manager will be responsible for obtaining new business (seller-doer). CIVIL SENIOR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER JOB DUTIES Concurrently manages a variety of civil engineering Public Works-Water Resources projects. Tracks project scope, budgets, and schedules to ensure fulfillment of contract commitments and profitability. Effectively manages quality assurance and quality control. Uses technical knowledge to prepare PSandE for water resources projects, including water, sewer, and storm drains (pipelines, pump stations, lift stations, storage reservoirs, etc.). Primary interface with clients on project coordination and design and follow-up to ensure quality standards are met, efficiency levels are maintained, and client satisfaction, respect, and confidence are assured. Directs/mentors project engineers and design engineers on technical matters and procedures and acts as a technical resource to staff. Responsible for securing new work by establishing and fostering client relations and developing proposals (scope, schedule, and fee estimates). Develops and maintains strong relationships with ongoing clients and actively seeks to expand services to them. Regularly engages in professional/community activities that promote the Cannon brand (writing, speaking, etc.). Requirements: Requires a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college. Requires a minimum of 15 years' experience in Civil Engineering specifically pertaining to Public Works/Water Resources projects. Requires minimum 8 years of project management experience pertaining to Public Works/Water Resources projects. Requires a California P.E. license. Working knowledge of typical computer software programs used in civil engineering design (AutoCAD, Civil3D, Hydrology and Hydraulic, AES, WSPG, Flowmaster, etc.) Must be proficient with MS Office Suite. A proven track record and strong desire to provide superior client service and delivery. Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver on time within budget. Experience in staff management, mentoring and resource management a plus. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; college degree preferred. 4+ years of progressive experience in property management, with at least 2 years managing a lease-up at a Class A or luxury residential high-rise. 2+ years of supervisory experience with proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop a team. Strong financial acumen, including experience with budgets, financial statements, and variance reporting. Expertise in federal fair housing and applicable state/local laws. Proficiency in property management software (Yardi, RealPage, or similar), Microsoft Office, and digital marketing tools Demonstrated experience in conflict resolution, customer service, and relationship management. Experience with Yardi is a plus. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel). A strong focus on customer service and results. Excellent communication, active listening, and organizational skills. Ability to work well in a team and establish good working relationships. Capable of multitasking and prioritizing in a fast-paced environment. Self-directed and able to work independently with minimal supervision. This may also include feasibility studies, research projects, and design projects. Develops PID's, PFD's, cause and effect charts, and process descriptions. Works with Principal Engineers to complete any simulated heat and material balances. Designs and prepares plans, specifications, and estimates for a variety of mechanical engineering projects. Assists project manager with project management including proposals, scheduling, budgeting, and overall client satisfaction. Limited interaction with clients under the direction of Project Manager. Coordinates with representatives of agencies, utility companies, vendors, material suppliers, and contractors to obtain information and guidance and make appropriate process and equipment selection. Participates in project reviews (PIDs, HAZOP, 3D models) as part of design follow-up support. Manages work within deadlines and budgets set by the Project Manager. Updates the Project Manager on progress of work and informs them of problems and questions. Travels to gather field data for designs and (or) supports construction, start-up, and commissioning activities at client facilities (typically within California). Supports development of departmental procedures, workflows, design checklists, and other company standards. Requirements A Bachelor's degree in Engineering from an accredited college. Chemical or Mechanical focus strongly preferred. Successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam highly desirable. Engineer in Training (EIT) professional designation, a plus. 0-3 years work experience in engineering. Specific experience in one or more of the following fields strongly preferred: oil & gas processing facilities; refineries; power generation; pipelines; water treatment; utility systems; fabrication; and process industries. Familiar with applicable industry standard design codes (ASME, ANSI, API, etc.), a plus. Knowledge of AutoCAD, 3D piping modeling, AVEVA Engineering, or Microsoft 365 is a plus.
