JOB SUMMARY:
The Manager of Public Safey is a non-uniformed armed position that manages the day-to-day operations of the Public Safety Department which includes campus parking operations. The Manager reports to and assists Director of Public Safety with all department related responsibilities and with implementation of the security management plan. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, investigations, staff scheduling, assisting the Director with the department budget, development of subordinate supervisors and officers including annual evaluations, oversight of related technology projects and all facets of reporting functions (creating, reviewing, and approving).
Hires, recruits and trains new officers and ensures safe and proper staffing levels are maintained. Provides recommendations to the Director regarding the security management plan. Responds to all emergency situations and alerts and collaborates with local authorities when required. Enforces and follows St. Tammany Health System policies and procedures. Reviews security reports and takes measures to proactively prevent security occurrences. Collaborate with leaders across the organization to ensure proper delivery of security services. Responsible for compliance with The Joint Commission Standards related to the security management program. Will act as the Director in the absence of the Director of Public Safety.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent required. Must be able to read, write and follow written or oral instructions. 10+ years of security related experience and 7+ years of supervisory experience is required, preferably in a healthcare setting. IAHSS Supervisor Certification within the first year of employment for external candidates and within three (3) months of promotion for internal hires.
Must be able to pass all prerequisites assigned by STHS to carry and operate a company issued firearm. Must not have any felony convictions. Must successfully complete psychological testing and evaluation as well as firearm training, written tests, and firing range qualification at the time of a conditional offer of employment. Firearms recertification must be performed annually. Schedule is Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm but must be willing to be on call 24/7 and respond to after hours emergencies as needed.
Must have a valid and current state issued driver's license. Must maintain and provide proof of automobile insurance (at his/her own expense) in amounts which meet at least the minimum liability coverage limits required by the state of their residence. Must successfully pass a criminal and driving record background checks prior to hiring and annually thereafter; driving records shall not contain any of the following: a suspended or revoked driver's license, 3 or more moving violations in the past 36 months, 2 or more accidents in the past 36 months, 1 or more instances of driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI) within the past 24 months, at fault in a fatal accident within the past 5 years, leaving the scene of an accident within the past 36 months, and/or reckless driving within the past 12 months.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in criminal justice or business administration strongly preferred. Prior experience in law enforcement, military or corrections is highly desired, but not essential. Prior healthcare security experience is strongly preferred.

Must possess good physical health. Some requirements include but are not limited to standing, sitting or walking for long periods of time. Lifting at least 100 pounds is required.

Current BLS and ALS certifications through any International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) provided courses such as but not limited to: Ochsner Health System, American Heart Association, and American Red Cross. The ILCOR course must include a manikin check-off (ALS required by specialty only)
