About the Role:
The Senior Accountant is a critical, high-impact position within the Finance Department, reporting directly to the Director, Finance. This role is responsible for accounts payable, full-cycle general ledger management, complex accounting related to investments, project fundings and grants, and ensuring the financial integrity and compliance of the Foundation in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). The position serves a dual function, executing core accounting operations while also performing analysis, troubleshooting problems, and recommending improvements to financial processes.
Position Summary:
General Accounting & Financial Reporting
Prepares and records journal entries, accruals, and monthly, quarterly, and year-end reconciliations for all general ledger and balance sheet accounts, including complex accounts.
Manages significant portions of the month-end close process to ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
Prepares monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for management, including the Statement of Financial Position and Statement of Activity.
Reviews, posts, and/or adjusts complex multi-entity transactions, recommending proper accounting treatment to the Director, Finance or Head of Finance.
Oversees the Foundation's fixed assets and prepares the monthly journal entry for depreciation.
Treasury Management
Manages banking relationships, coordinates with external banking partners, and assists with liquidity management for the Foundation's treasury needs.
Conducts bank reconciliations to the general ledger.
Compliance, Audit, and Budgeting
Serves as a key liaison in the annual audit, preparing all required documentation and schedules for external auditors.
Assists with the preparation of the annual IRS Form 990-PF and ensures compliance with tax laws and related local/state/federal regulations for 501(c)(3) organizations.
Supports the monthly budget to actual monitoring process, undertaking variance analysis to provide financial insights to department budget owners.
Participates in updating and continually documenting policies and procedures to maintain efficient accounting infrastructure and strong internal controls.
Assists the Director of Finance and Head of Finance in identifying and mitigating organizational risk.
Grants, Payroll Administration & Other
Prepares and reconciles all grants data and ensures it aligns with the grants management database.
Supports external vendors in the administration of payroll and 401(k) contributions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with federal and state regulations.
Provides backup duties and other accounting functions as needed.
Location:
We are currently working in a hybrid capacity and will require staff to work in person 2 days per week on Tuesdays and Wednesdays beginning in December 2025. This position will be based out of our San Francisco office. Employees are required to reside within 100 miles of ON's office location. Candidates must have a current U.S. work authorization to be considered.
Compensation:
This is a full-time, salaried position that features competitive pay and benefits, including health care (medical/dental/vision), paid time off, and a generous employer 401k contribution. The salary range for this role is $124,000 to $155,000. ON manages pay equity seriously and new hires generally start at the midpoint of this range.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience; CPA or equivalent qualification preferred.

B. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Manage the University's gift revenue cycle and provide reconciliations for pledge receivables and reserve accounts.
Reconcile cash gifts and pledges to the Gift Processing system (CLARA) and gift clearing accounts.
Coordinate with the Development Office to resolve issues and improve business processes
Analyze Development gift write-offs and impact to pledge reserves
Reconcile online giving transactions
Reconcile stock gifts monthly
Ensure procedures and policy are developed and followed to ensure all non-cash gift transactions (e.g., securities, gifts-in-kind, split interest agreements, donated services) are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

4. Support University Form 990 income tax preparation

6. Internal grant management and accounting
Serve as central finance liaison for the establishment of internal grant funds

Perform setup of new internal grant funds within the Workday ERP, including funding journal entries, ensuring requests for funding are compliant with University policies and adhere to budget guidelines and restrictions
Perform close-out procedures with respect to internal grants, ensuring that expired grants are closed out on a timely basis, remaining funding is swept in accordance with University policy, and deficits are analyzed and remedied.
7. Serve as back-up to the fixed asset accountant
Serve as back-up to the accountant for system and administrative procedures with respect to fixed asset, project, and plant accounting

PIMCO follows a total compensation approach when rewarding employees which includes a base salary and a discretionary bonus. Base salary is the fixed component of compensation that is determined by core job responsibilities, relevant experience, internal level, and market factors.
