Pros of working at Hanna Boys Center

Staff across all departments are mission driven and passionate. Especially felt supported by and had fun with my team. Love the day to day with the "boys." Sometimes I couldn't believe I got paid to spend my days doing some really fun things with them.

Cons of working at Hanna Boys Center

New CEO (came in 2021) changed everything. Last CEO wasn't popular either, but this one has created a toxic culture. In addition, he yells at staff, looks for excuses to write up people, will not take responsibility - blames things that go wrong on others, and is dishonest with the board and outsiders - hiding the number of people served and reasons why people leave. Claim they are trauma-informed but their practices with the clients and, especially with staff, are not: zero tolerance, consequences more severe than infractions, voice and power belong only to a few and only those who are "yes" people to CEO.

Leadership (below CEO) cares about their staff and the clients - sometimes the staff roe than the clients. CEO is very good at wooing stakeholders.

How would you improve Hanna Boys Center's culture?

Toxic culture needs to change - starts with top leadership - Hanna needs a new CEO and leadership need to stand up for what is right versus trying to keep their jobs. Some new leaders are under-qualified for their jobs as they are hired by people who don't really understand their profession
