Hannibal-LaGrange University company history timeline
The institution was founded in 1858 in LaGrange, Missouri, by the Wyaconda Baptist Association.
Established in 1858, Hannibal-LaGrange University provides an excellent education in a co-educational environment which instills character building principles and Christian ideals.
A 1928 revision of the charter required trustees to be approved by the Missouri Baptist General Association.
In 1957, Hannibal-LaGrange College received a new charter which conveyed the ownership and control of the college to the Missouri Baptist Convention.
In 1967, Hannibal-LaGrange College founded and consolidated with Missouri Baptist College of St Louis.
In 1973, the Missouri Baptist Convention separated the two facilities and reestablished Hannibal-LaGrange College.
The University began offering four-year degrees in 1981.
In 1989, the college’s main building burned to the ground, destroying the administrative offices, most faculty offices, classrooms, chapel/theatre, gymnasium, and cafeteria.
In 1989, Hannibal-LaGrange University suffered the loss of its administration building in a catastrophic fire.
In 2010, the Missouri Baptist Convention voted to change the institution’s name to Hannibal-LaGrange University.
On May 4, 2012, the trustees at Hannibal–LaGrange University elected Doctor Anthony W. Allen as the 17th president of the university.
In 2013, tornado-force straight-line winds damaged the T. M. Mathews Science Building beyond repair.
