What began in 1901 as a vision to bring medical services to residents in the Hannibal area is now more than a reality.
In 1901, Aaron R. Levering, President of the Farmers and Merchants Bank of Hannibal, and his wife, Eleanor, dedicated land on Market Street and donated funds for the construction of a Hannibal hospital to be called Levering Hospital.
The Hannibal Clinic was founded by four physicians in 1957.
In 1959, the Clinic moved to a 6000 square foot building containing examination rooms, full laboratory and x-ray facilities, minor surgery, business offices, and waiting rooms at 711 Grand in Hannibal.
By the Clinic’s 25th anniversary in 1982, the clinic was staffed by 14 physicians and 50 full-time and part-time non-physician employees.
The boards of directors for both Levering Hospital and St Elizabeth Hospital met in 1987 and entered into an agreement to explore consolidation of both facilities.
Following the 1993 opening of Hannibal Regional Hospital, the Hannibal Clinic expanded services with new construction at 100 Medical Drive.
The Clinic at 711 Grand was closed in October 2003.
The health care system continues to add to its history with plans for a $61 million expansion to be completed in 2020.
