The Role We Want You For
The primary function of the Structural Steel Estimator, Steel Procurement is to provide accurate bid proposals for Structural Steel and scope analysis for potential construction projects.
Specifics of the Role:
Responsible for accurate material quantity take-off.
Develops comprehensive, detailed proposal for the project estimated.
Maintain project budget throughout each project, with profit and loss accountability.
Identify opportunities for change orders and establish cost where applicable.
Prepare, issue and track change order status for material above and beyond the original contract.
Develop options and recommend best value solutions based on cost, engineering, quality, or availability of materials.
Additional responsibilities include quote review, project management, and material purchasing.
Ensure department achieves goals through management and leadership mentality.

Requirements:
Knowledge and understanding of Structural Steel and Miscellaneous Metals
Knowledge and understanding of building construction combined with steel design concepts presented on architectural and engineering drawings
Ability to understand construction drawings and specifications
Ability to prepare proposals with minimum supervision
Candidates must have a strong understanding of detailed estimating, estimating techniques and cost control
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should be able to clearly articulate bid inclusions, exclusions, and proposal clarifications with owners and subcontractors
Must be able to multitask and prioritize responsibilities

Education/Experience:
5+ years of experience.

The Role:
The Senior Estimator is responsible for the coordination of all project budgeting, including preparing quantity surveys, obtaining subcontractor pricing, reviewing historical cost data and ensuring compliance with scope of work, as well as offering construction feasibility and value engineering counsel. Job Summary
Desired estimating disciplines include earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and structures on transit, civil infrastructure, and highway projects. Successful candidates will prepare detailed take-offs, solicit quotes, develop cost estimates, and close out bids. You will have the ability to collaborate as part of large pursuit teams and provide consistent results under pressure. The EI/EII provides support for single large projects or multiple smaller projects. Primary duties include participation in bid efforts, working with teams on Design Build and CM at Risk delivery methods, and providing administrative support to the estimating department.
Key Responsibilities
1. Entry level exposure to construction software but strong computer skills including the ability to use spread sheets, bid management, and online plan rooms.
2. Estimator will develop skills in Agtek, On Screen Take-Off, and advance to beginning HCSS use.
3. Perform basic estimating functions and position is primarily quantity take-off and vendor solicitation.
4. Attend pre-bid meetings and perform site walks.
5. Support estimating efforts by take-off of work and self-perform estimates for work that is primarily subcontracted out.
6. Assist in obtaining firm quotes for material suppliers, equipment and subcontractors.
7. Draft scope/proposal letters for bid and negotiated projects.
8. At times, some field engineering duties such as submittals, RFIs, and assisting field operations with is required
Minimum Job Requirements
1. Four-year engineering degree or equivalent combinations of technical training and/or related experience.
2. Proficient use of all Microsoft Office Suite programs.
3. Experience levels for positions are as follows:
a. Estimator I: 1-3 years of experience.
b. Estimator II: 2-5 years of experience.
4. Preferred candidates will have obtained their LEED accreditation, or express willingness to obtain.

Digital Building Components, part of the DPR Family of Companies, is seeking an Estimator who will review and execute bids on multiple and/or complex projects. This position will be responsible for all aspects of the estimating and bid process, from review of plans and specifications, to soliciting and negotiating prices from contractors and suppliers.
The Estimator will develop a thorough proposal on all cost elements relating to: DBC's load-bearing cold-formed steel structures; light-gauge, prefabricated exterior and interior building panels; and light MEP systems. They will determine all cost components of a project, propose alternative solutions, solve technical issues, and provide design/preconstruction phase services. The Estimator will represent Digital Building Components to our clients and design/trade partners. Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to the following:
Supervisory Responsibilities:

Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide all cost elements relative to estimating and planning for a given project.
Be able to propose alternate solutions relating to the scoping and cost of a project architectural finishes, cold-formed metal framing and/or light MEP systems.
Provide all design/preconstruction phase services.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Ability to take building and plant costs and translate to a GC model.
Understanding of load-bearing framing (in metal or wood).
General understanding of basic building systems.
Understanding of electrical, plumbing and mechanical is a plus.
Good interpersonal skills and strong willingness to work in a collaborative environment.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve technical issues.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in engineering, structural architecture, or construction management and/or 10+ years of related experience.

Position Value Proposition:
As an Estimator for structural steel (and related scopes), you will play a key role in the preconstruction process by producing accurate, detail-oriented estimates for small and large-scale projects. This position requires collaboration with various Graywolf departments including project management, steel fabrication, field operations, and procurement. The Estimator's work directly impacts our ability to secure and deliver projects efficiently and profitably.
Core Responsibilities:
* Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documentation to prepare thorough, accurate cost estimates.
* Produce material take-offs, estimate labor and equipment needs, and identify buyout items and vendor scopes.
* Collaborate with internal teams on constructability and value engineering opportunities.
* Prepare and format proposals, budgets, and bid packages for both negotiated and competitive bid opportunities.
* Identify and communicate project risks and cost drivers during the bid process.
* Support the project team with estimating change orders and budget updates during the project lifecycle.
* Use company estimating systems and software to input take-offs, drawings, and pricing information.
* Assist in developing and refining internal estimating processes, templates, and best practices.
* Participate in pre-bid meetings and site walks when required.
* Maintain positive working relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and clients.
Qualifications:
* Minimum of 5 years of experience estimating structural and miscellaneous steel projects; heavy industrial experience preferred.
* High school diploma or equivalent required; vocational training or coursework in structural design, drafting, or construction preferred.
* Proven proficiency in reading construction documents and interpreting technical drawings.
* Strong understanding of job cost accounting, fabrication processes, and field erection methods.
* Exceptional attention to detail with strong analytical and mathematical skills.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* High level of organization and time management; ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Experience working with estimating software and Microsoft Excel is required; experience with other project management software is a plus.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
* Work is typically performed in an office setting with occasional visits to job sites or fabrication facilities.
* Must be able to sit, stand, or use a computer for extended periods.
* Ability to travel as needed to support project or client needs.
* Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, with extended hours or weekends as required to meet project deadlines.

Responsibilities
* Review data to determine material and labor requirements, and prepares conceptual budgets based on general functional use spaces
* Computes costs factors and prepares estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work; preparing bids; and determining cost effectiveness
* Reviews the design documents and participates in meetings with clients and designers to obtain a thorough understanding of the project scope
* Documents and informs the individual responsible for the project of any ambiguities and or discrepancies between project related documents
* Consults with clients, vendors, or other individuals to discuss and formulate estimates, and resolve issues
* Collaborates with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates

* Assists the manager of estimating in the training of project estimators

Education and Experience
* Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or Quantity Surveying is preferred
* Minimum 5 years (10 years preferred) position related work experience in project estimating or related field required
Knowledge and Skills
* Extensive knowledge and experience in developing conceptual and design phase estimates for complex public sector clients or similar projects
* Effective computer skills including proficient use of Word, Excel and Outlook software required, and Timberline construction management software and Screen Take Off estimating software preferred
* Good oral and written communications skills are essential
License and Certifications
* A valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle record, free from suspensions or restrictions is required
* A CEP, CPE, or CTE credential is not required but seem as more competitive

The position is office based in Phoenix, AZ.
Work Environment
