Hardscrabble Realty company history timeline

1841

Turning Point: Real estate speculator Ambrose George opened a general store in Hardscrabble in 1841 and bought several acres of land.

In 1841, the Long Island Railroad came to Farmingdale.

1845

He changed the name of the hamlet to Farmingdale by 1845, subdivided his land and laid out streets.

The first Post Office was opened in 1845 in a private home.

1892

As for schools, Farmingdale became an official school district in 1892.

1904

The village incorporated in 1904.

1912

In 1912, SUNY Farmingdale and Main Street school opened.

1914

The farms provided an impetus for the state to establish the Agricultural and Technical College in 1914.

1923

The first Farmingdale free library opened in 1923 in the Kolkebeck House.

1955

Woodward Parkway and the original East memorial opened in 1955.

1983
