Key Responsibilities
Design and configure camera, lens, filter, and lighting systems to support robust and repeatable imaging for automated inspection.
Perform illumination analysis using advanced lighting strategies (backlights, dome lights, ring lights, structured light, etc.) to improve feature contrast and reduce imaging artifacts.
Evaluate and select machine vision cameras and sensors (CMOS, CCD) based on application requirements such as resolution, sensitivity, and frame rate.
Develop mechanical designs-including mounts, brackets, and enclosures-ensuring imaging hardware is stable and reliable in active industrial environments.
Produce engineering documentation, layouts, and schematics using SolidWorks or comparable CAD tools.
Collaborate closely with vision engineers, controls/automation personnel, and plant operations teams to ensure seamless system integration.
Oversee contractors and vendors responsible for fabricating and installing imaging hardware solutions.
Troubleshoot and optimize imaging systems by addressing lighting inconsistencies, focus issues, vibration, or sensor configuration problems.
Lead field installation efforts, support commissioning activities, and fine-tune imaging and lighting performance during deployment.
Establish hardware standards, best practices, and documentation for scalable and repeatable systems.
Develop preventive maintenance procedures for imaging hardware and partner with plant teams to ensure consistent upkeep.
Implement automated monitoring tools for camera and lighting performance, setting thresholds and alerts for early detection of degradation.
Stay current with evolving imaging technologies, optical components, and illumination methodologies to enhance system capability over time.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Optical Engineering, Physics, Computer Vision, or related discipline; or 8+ years of relevant hands-on hardware engineering experience.
Practical expertise with machine vision cameras, optics, filters, and industrial lighting solutions.
Knowledge of illumination techniques for challenging surfaces (reflective, textured, curved, low contrast).
Proficiency with SolidWorks or equivalent CAD tools for mechanical design and documentation.
Experience designing mechanical fixtures, mounts, or housings for imaging hardware in existing production environments.
Track record of deploying and tuning camera and lighting systems in industrial or manufacturing settings.
Strong understanding of optics, imaging theory, and sensor properties.

**What You Will Do:**
The positions primary focus is the creation and validation of a centrally operational technology, controls hardware specification for all of Pratt and Whitney to utilize. After creation, this role will be to ensure compliance with all Pratt and Whitney sites as well as machine and system suppliers. The position will also create and implement standard deliverables and buy off procedures generated as part of the hardware specification and in alignment with all company and project automation goals.
**Primary Job Responsibilities:**
Create and assist in the execution of standard as related to controls hardware. This includes:
+ Component list per application including supplier selection
+ Design and implementation validation
+ Standard control panel designs
+ Standard utility designs
+ Operational Technology network architecture
+ Standard engineering procedures and documentation
+ Standard best practices, integration procedures and documentation
+ Maintenance procedures and Life Cycle Cost calculations
+ Machine tagging standardization
+ Supplier hardware drawing approvals and review processes
+ Standardization of pneumatic safety circuits
+ Continuous improvement of controls hardware standards.
+ Interfacing with suppliers to understand potential supply chain constraints.
+ Support of suppliers with the approval process for hardware design.
+ Applying expertise to technical problem resolution for current and future projects.
+ Works to influence parties within and outside of department at an operational level regarding policies, practices and procedures.
+ Assist as resource in the capital procurement process

**Qualifications You Must Have:**
+ Bachelor's Degree or equivalent demonstrated experience in Industrial electrical engineering, Computer/ Software engineering, Engineering, Manufacturing or related discipline and/or 5+ years of experience in automated systems specifically in manufacturing environments
+ US Citizen due to program requirements
+ The ability to obtain a US Government Secret Clearance
+ Up to 50% travel required.

This role is responsible for designing, implementing, and tuning the hardware foundation of computer and machine vision systems-specifically cameras, sensors, optics, and lighting solutions-to enable high-quality imaging for automated inspection. The position is remote with up to 50% travel for scoping, installing, and commissioning systems across manufacturing facilities.

This person will work on the entire PCBA process, from writing functional specifications to assembled PCBA testing. This person will drive all required design reviews (schematic, layout, test plan). This person should be comfortable implementing complex mixed analog and digital circuit boards, as well as FPGA designs.

Responsibilities:
Design, prototype, build and test complex mixed analog and digital custom circuit boards, including programmable logic.
Improve existing designs to be more reliable, manufacturable, and serviceable.
Transition deliverables to mass production in collaboration with manufacturing NPI. Collaborate with manufacturing on product-sustaining activities.
Work closely with turnkey PCBA manufacturer and assembly house to build prototypes.

Required Qualifications:
