What You'll Be Doing Job Summary: Generally responsible for supervision and technical direction over a team of designers when functioning as a lead designer. As lead designer, responsibilities will include total delivery of the civil/structural deliverables and services on time, within performance budget and meeting quality expectations. Duties may include performing advanced design work serving as a technical specialist for a complex design assignment. This level requires extensive progressive experience in civil/structural design and involves utilization of project controls for cost, schedule and quality of projects. This work will be performed under minimal supervision. Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to: Familiarity with and utilization of department design and drafting standards Recognizing and communicating project scope, specifications and design criteria upon assignment to a project task team. Reviewing and comprehending the latest information available regarding civil/structural calculations, equipment drawings and layouts or drawings from other disciplines before initiating design effort on specific drawings. Drafting civil/structural plans under minimal supervision. Knowledge of basic civil material specifications to the extent that all information required for material purchase, fabrication and construction is reflected on the finished drawings. Recognizing and communicating scope and design changes promptly. Performing field related work collecting design information and verifying designs for tie-ins, function and clearances to existing facility; on-site assistance during startup; performing field support activities, where assigned, for engineering support during construction; assisting engineers with cost and material estimates and preliminary design studies. Checking the accuracy and quality of drawings developed by drafters, when assigned, based on information conveyed by engineering direction, equipment and discipline drawings; providing technical guidance to less experienced drafting personnel in the department. Coordinating & delegating work activities with other teammates and the discipline leads. Producing civil/structural construction scopes with engineering review and approval; able to serve in role as a mentor for entry level and new teammates. Completing complex and difficult designs and layouts for complete systems and components of projects. Assignments typically involve design elements for which there may be no clearly established precedents and require anticipation of problems at the outset in order to provide appropriate solutions. Performing front-end layout and design of complex systems and equipment. Ensuring compliance with required specifications, tolerances, safety factors, and client requirements. Performing specialized geometric design computations and analysis. Performing interdisciplinary checks and providing coordination of data to ensure compatible designs. Assisting in the establishment or revision of guidelines and standards. Reviewing supplier data and supplier/manufacturer drawings, as required. Checking orthographic (2D) and isometric (3D) drawings prepared by others. May provide direction to a team of checking personnel, ensuring the dimensional accuracy of the drawings produced. Collaborating with Engineers and other engineering disciplines to ensure quality of design. Providing training to less experienced designers. Serving as Lead Designer on projects, ensuring compliance with industry codes, as well as project and company standards. Preparing man-hour estimates as required. Responsible for the quality and economy of deliverables, and efficiency of detailing. As a lead designer, responsible for the design team meeting scope, schedule and budget. Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment. Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards. Ability to create accurate civil/structural construction documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings. Knowledge and understanding of work flow/information flow between disciplines. Your Role With The Company: This position reports directly to the Global Civil|Structural Engineering Manager. Prepare civil | structural engineering deliverables in accordance with Company Management System, current legislation, project requirements and international standards. Check deliverables produced by others. Manage the civil | structural scope of engineering work to eliminate cost / time growth. Identify any project scope growth and correctly document it and apply the project procedures for cost and time reimbursement. Commercial awareness of the impact of changes in scope, budget and schedule overruns. Identify project risk and address risk mitigation measures. Identify, communicate, and implement cost reduction and schedule improvement opportunities. Provide technical information in support of the project team. Creative problem definition and problem-solving skills. Self-motivated and capable of delivering high-quality work with little/no supervision guidance. Up-to date knowledge of civil and structural international standards applicable to petrochemical process plants. Working knowledge of foundations and structures for fixed and rotating equipment.
