Harker's Distribution company history timeline

1954

In 1954, Harker's began making a name for itself in the then burgeoning foodservice industry.

1968

1968 - Harker's production facilities become USDA inspected, allowing the company to expand outside of Iowa.

1982

1982 - A third production facility is opened in Sioux Center.

1989

In 1989, Tyson Foods made a successful bid to buy both Holly Farms and Harker's.

1994

1994 - The refinancing of Harker's Distribution leads to the management team taking complete ownership and control.

1998

1998 - Harker's re-establishes steak production in the Le Mars plant facility and launches the "Signature of Iowa" brand.

2001

2001 - Harker's launches a fresh custom cut meat program in the Le Mars plant.

2003

The out-of-town facilities were sold, but in 2003 during a transition time, the company employed about 550 in production, delivery and sales, Dickman said.

2005

In July 2005, Geiger learned that BancBoston Ventures, Inc. of Boston was planning on liquidating its portfolio.

2007

Harker's made two cutbacks in 2007, one in June and one in November.
