Position Summary:
HED | IDEAS (Intern Development for Engineering and Architecture Students) is an approximate 10-week program that provides aspiring A/E professionals real-world work experiences that introduces them to the many diverse components of an A/E firm. The experience is intended to complement and support their academic learning experience.
Interns contribute to one or more of HED's nine market sectors. Project work exposure can vary, from planning and concept development, through design and production and construction administration. Interns also attend a series of workshops that provide introductions to the intricacies of integrated practice, project management, programming, business development and marketing, all crucial to the successful operations of an A/E firm.
Interns at HED harness their critical thinking skills, enthusiasm, innovation, passion, energy, and curiosity to make a positive impact through design excellence and contributing to making the world a better place. Essential Functions:
Support the discipline team leader as directed
Execute modeling and design documentation assignments as directed
Participate in the curation of awards and pursuit documentation as needed
Update detail standards libraries as directed
Assist teams with updates to Revit floor plans, elevations, schedules, and details.
Attend site visits as required
Engage in HED | IDEAS workshops
Attend team and client meetings as needed, both in-person and virtually
Interface with other project team members on coordination assignments
Perform other duties as delegated by the supervisor
Requirements:
Pursuit of a degree in architecture (BSAS, BArch, MArch)
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in English
Computer literacy required, Rhino and Revit experience considered a plus
Initiative-taking, enthusiastic, and flexible
Able to work in a hybrid environment

Position Summary
The Electrical Designer builds upon foundational experience to deepen technical capabilities and take greater ownership of assigned design work. Operating with increasing autonomy, this role is focused on the development of electrical design documentation, performing electrical calculations, and coordination across disciplines. The Electrical Designer contributes meaningfully to project execution and supports innovation through curiosity and collaboration within the team. This individual is engaged in developing a deeper understanding of electrical building systems and design tools and begins taking responsibility for portions of electrical design packages with guidance from project engineers.
Essential Functions:
Produce the sheet list for projects, determine project sheet requirements and complete the project set up in Revit.
Participate in the completion of the BIM Project Execution Plan.
Participate in construction administration activities such as submittal reviews and develop RFI responses with supervision from lead engineer.
Collaborate with the project engineers on the required system components-such as panelboards, transformers, lighting control systems- coordinate with all impacted disciplines.
Primarily working in Revit, modeling electrical components and systems based on code and client requirements, as well as engineering guidance
Produce redline markups for electrical drawings to delegate tasks to other team members.
Participate in mentorship relationships with all levels of engineers to understand and teach the “how” and “why” of engineering for the built environment.
Edit specifications, primarily Division 26, for project requirements alongside the project engineers.
Complete system sizing and energy code compliance calculations alongside the project engineers, including lighting power density, voltage drop, and fault current calculations.
Develop familiarity with code compliance and engineering best practices.
Check your work for graphical and technical issues to resolve prior to deliverable issuance.
Collaborate in the QAQC effort per HED's Design Process
Attend client and project team meetings alongside the project lead to review and coordinate project requirements.
Participate in coordination meetings and lead follow-up efforts to resolve action items.
Work with sub-contracted firm(s) to delegate workload
Work in different sectors to gain experience as a generalist
Engage in DWP process and estimate hours required to complete project tasks
Manage assigned project hours for self-performed and delegated work.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in directly related field or equivalent experience required.
2+ years of experience in the AEC industry preferred.
Written and verbal communication skills commensurate with the position required.
Strong organizational skills preferred.
Revit experience required.
Experience with computers, specifically for word processing, spreadsheet use/creation and email required.
Detail-oriented, self-motivated, enthusiastic, flexible and curious personalities required.
Ability to work well with others under deadline situations required.

This individual will be part of the Environmental Stewardship and Resiliency (ESR) market segment providing environmental stewardship, sustainability and resilience planning, permitting, and consulting services to Aviation, Transportation, Municipal and private clients nationally. The ideal candidate will have strong writing skills and an interest in providing a broad array of sustainability and resilience planning and implementation services. Demonstrated knowledge and experience implementing sustainability through the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure's (ISI's) ENVISION rating system is important. Broad background knowledge and interests in energy, electrification, water, stormwater, wetlands, spill management, emerging, hazardous and non-hazardous materials and waste management, environmental compliance management systems and auditing programs is a plus. Interest or prior experience in developing proactive environmental programs, including operational sustainability, environmental restoration, and long-term adaptation and resiliency planning, is desired.
To be successful in this role, you must:
Have a bachelor's degree from an accredited program.
Minimum 15 years of applicable consulting experience.
Ability to mentor and help guide junior consultants.
Requires an accredited bachelor's or master's degree in environmental sciences / natural resources, environmental engineering, planning or related field.
Strong verbal, written and presentation skills.
Working knowledge of MS Office (Word, Access, Excel and PowerPoint) and ESRI ArcGIS software is essential for use in completing assignments.
Ability to work in an independent but collaborative team environment and be highly responsive to client deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications:
ENVISION Sustainability Professional (ENV SP)
Certification or certification-tracked by a professional society or a state regulatory board in the discipline of practice, if applicable. Certifications or registrations may include but are not limited to Certified Environmental Professional (C.E.P.), Certified Ecologist (C.E.), or registered Professional Engineer (PE - Civil/Environmental) or Professional Geologists (PG).
Understanding of NEPA documentation for improvement projects a plus.

Currently enrolled in Architecture, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Business or Design Planning Programs or have completed the third year of an undergraduate
No prior work experience required.
Excellent presentation, written, verbal and communication skills.
Possess outstanding analytical and interpersonal skills.
Comfortable communicating design concepts and processes.
Experience in business strategy and workplace planning and design a plus.
Proficient with software such as AutoCAD, Revit (a plus), Adobe Suite software, Affinity suite software, Visualization. Illustrator; Sketchup, 3D software such as Rhino and Grasshopper, InDesign, PowerPoint, Excel, and other data management software.
