HED | IDEAS (Intern Development for Engineering and Architecture Students) is an approximate 10-week program that provides aspiring A/E professionals real-world work experiences that introduces them to the many diverse components of an A/E firm. The experience is intended to complement and support their academic learning experience.
Interns contribute to one or more of HED's nine market sectors. Project work exposure can vary, from planning and concept development, through design, production and construction administration. Interns also attend a series of workshops that provide introductions to the intricacies of integrated practice, project management, programming, business development and marketing, all crucial to the successful operations of an A/E firm.

Position Summary The Electrical Intern supports the project team by assisting with electrical design tasks and learning the fundamentals of electrical building system design in a professional environment. Interns gain hands-on experience working with modeling software, understanding electrical engineering principles, and participating in real project work under direct supervision. This role provides a foundation for a future career in electrical systems design and encourages learning through mentorship and exposure to interdisciplinary coordination.
Essential Functions:
Perform basic Revit modeling and documentation tasks related to electrical systems such as lighting layouts, device plans, and single-line diagrams.
Learn to follow redlines and apply revisions for electrical plans and circuiting.
Support electrical project teams in minor documentation tasks such as tagging devices, updating panel schedules, or managing views.
Attend internal team meetings and shadow senior electrical engineers and designers.
Observe and support basic electrical calculations and design setups, such as lighting power density and voltage drop workflows.
Manage drawing files, electrical sheet organization, and participate in file maintenance efforts.
Assist with product research, standards updates, or administrative tasks related to electrical scope.
Requirements

Enrolled in Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or directly related field required.

Responsibilities:

This position will assist the Project Manager with completion and execution of detailed bridge and culvert inspection and asset management programs. This role works both in the field and office, planning and executing inspections, coordinating traffic control and equipment needs, documenting existing conditions, and preparing required inspection and scoping reports.
As a senior member of the inspection team, you will work independently while exercising advanced judgment in the application of standard bridge inspection methodologies, including developing innovative and practical solutions for complex or unique structural conditions. You will also serve as a technical resource and mentor to less experienced staff, ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and in accordance with federal and state requirements.
Essential Functions:
Plan and complete bridge, culvert, and ancillary structure inspections in accordance with established work plans and schedules, including leading and guiding the work of others.
Perform complex field inspections to identify existing structural conditions, deterioration, and deficiencies.
Guide and support team members in documenting field conditions through detailed notes, measurements, and photographs.
Lead the timely and accurate completion of inspection deliverables, including bridge inspection reports and bridge scoping reports, in accordance with contractual requirements.
Coordinate traffic control, access methods, and equipment rentals necessary to safely perform inspections.
Ensure all inspection activities are conducted in a safe manner and in compliance with safety standards.
Remain current on federal and state requirements to maintain qualification as a Bridge Inspection Team Leader, including refresher training and field proficiency requirements.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and support to junior inspection staff.
Perform other duties as assigned.
To be successful in this role, you must:
Have a high school diploma or equivalent. (Preferred bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering)
Have a minimum of 7-10 years of relevant bridge inspection experience.
Meet FHWA Bridge Inspection Team Leader qualification requirements, including successful completion of an FHWA-approved comprehensive bridge inspection training course, through one of the following pathways:
Be a registered Professional Engineer (PE); or
Have five (5) years of bridge inspection experience; or
Hold a NICET Level III or IV Bridge Safety Inspector certification; or
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, have passed the FE/EIT exam, and have two (2) years of bridge inspection experience; or
Hold an Associate's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology and have four (4) years of bridge inspection experience.
Possess strong organizational, problem-solving, prioritization, communication, and leadership skills.
Have the ability to effectively interact with and build relationships with team members and clients.
Have a valid driver's license, be insurable, and be able to safely operate a vehicle on highways and at job sites.

We are seeking a Senior Process-Mechanical Engineer with expertise and experience in consulting for a wide variety of manufacturing clients and industrial sectors to contribute to the execution of our projects and to the growth of the Process Engineering Department. The candidate will provide technical expertise on behalf of the firm related to process engineering and piping engineering in industrial and manufacturing facilities and shall be able to demonstrate the ability to help lead clients through the front end engineering loading and planning stages of projects, continuing through the development of process flow diagrams, piping and instrumentation diagrams, equipment selection, and final engineering design. This position requires familiarity with the process industry system design and hook-up of equipment similar to that associated with scrubbers, dust collection systems, chemical tank farms, compressed gasses, industrial heat exchangers, large pumping systems, cooling towers, thermal oil heaters, large compressed air plants, and other similar systems.
Responsibilities:
* Conceptualize the initial process design approach for major phases of large industrial projects through installation, with an emphasis on specifying equipment, calculating loads, ductwork and pipe sizing, selection of equipment such as pumps, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, heat exchangers, dust collectors, scrubbers, adsorption/absorption units, chillers, etc.
* Develop Block Flow Diagrams, Process Flow Diagrams (including heat and mass balance), and Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams.
* Develop operational control descriptions such as Function Description, Cause & Effect Diagrams, and Sequences of Operations.
* Prepare for and participate in Process Hazards Analysis for projects.
* Prepare piping engineering design and lead the efforts of piping designers in the production of three-dimensional piping models, pipe stress analyses, pipe support design, and the production of fabrication level piping isometrics. In certain instances, ductwork may also require similar design attention.
* Conceive, plan, and conduct research in complex problem areas while creating innovative solutions to unusual engineering problems.
* Prepare engineering reports, plans and specifications for industrial projects. Design and produce engineering drawings and instructions based on calculations. Interpret, revise, and approve engineering and shop drawings. Prepare plans and technical specifications, procurement and construction documents and estimates.

* Participate in contract bidding and administration. Supervise and observe the design/installation and ongoing progress of a project, including the coordination of the project with City, State, and County officials and other outside agencies.
