Chief Marketing and Communications Officer

Jay Cooney's LinkedIn

My career in the automotive, consumer products and manufacturing industries spans 30+ years in locales including Detroit, New York, Singapore, Shanghai, and Seoul as part of General Motors’ Ford and PepsiCo’s Executive Communications teams-and now Harrisburg, PA as VP, Global Communications for Harsco, a global 10,000-employee industrial and environmental services company servicing the steel, rail and energy industries. As a senior communications professional, I’ve built global teams, served as trusted and strategic counselor to senior leadership, navigated complex reputation management issues, launched dozens of products and directed complete company rebrands from web launch to market positioning.

In my role at Harsco, I lead a multinational, multidivisional world-class internal and external communications team. In this position, I’ve also led the development and launch of a Communications & Marketing Council, a cross-divisional thought-leadership team composed of mid and senior-level Marcomms staff, and built a comms and graphic design team from the ground up at Harsco’s Global Service Centre (GSC) in Hyderabad, India, all while achieving a 97 percent “highest possible satisfaction” rating among colleagues.

When I’m not in the office I enjoy leisure travel with my family, long dog-walks with my wife, watching #BobcatNation Bates College Men’s lacrosse games, and being astounded by the creativity of my artist daughter. To be fair, I also like good food, good wine, great coffee and great people.

Pros of working at Harsco

Great Management, and great attitudes throughout the organization, from the top down

Cons of working at Harsco

None to speak of, but if I to speak to something, it would be the business cycle. The products offered don't offset enough to manage through downward cyclical business cycles

Harsco benefits

Retirement plan - this is a must. This company also has an on-site health clinic that allows employees to address concerns/issues during work hours
