Methodist Hospital is looking to hire a Sterile Processing Tech (SPD) to join our sterile processing team! Position Summary: The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible and accountable for all functions of the sterile processing department, under the guidance of the sterile processing department supervisors and manager. This position is responsible for working independently and with team members to ensure that all surgical instrumentation are properly decontaminated, assembled, inspected, packaged, sterilized, high level disinfected, marked for repair and placed in a proper repair location, and communicate incomplete trays and missing items to management and OR immediately. All instruments must be distributed, tracked and stored in a safe, secure, aseptic and timely manner throughout the hospital and clinics. Immediate-use steam sterilization, tray turnovers between surgical cases and releasing sterilized loads from the department must be performed observing standard practice. Each team member will be qualified to train others as assigned and serve as a front-line resource to sterile processing customers. The Sterile Process Tech is part of the SEIU-113 Union - SEIU will offer competitive wages for any prior experience in Sterile Processing or related fields. Word Processing knowledge, typing, data entry, strong communication skills - verbal and written. The candidate will present current certification from either CBSPD: C.S.P.D.T. or HSPA (formerly known as IAHCSMM): C.R.C.S.T. or must attain one of these certifications within 18 months of hire. The 18 month deadline will be the set on the same numbered day of the month as the hire date. For hire dates falling on the 31st, the deadline defaults to the last day of the 18th month. This certification must be maintained for the duration of employment. Reports directly to the Oxygen Delivery Manager. Become familiar with all DOT and FDA regulations as they pertain to oxygen. Delivers equipment and supplies from inventory as prescribed on patient/client delivery tickets. Assures proper segregation of clean and dirty equipment in the delivery vehicle. Loads the equipment, oxygen systems, and related supplies into vehicle. Determines or obtains the best daily route, then drives delivery vehicles on that route, to deliver home medical equipment, oxygen, and supplies to home care patients/clients in a timely manner. Completes route sheet accurately and returns in a timely manner. Provides patient/client orientation, instructing on the proper use, maintenance, and safety of equipment. Works with patients/clients to solve a variety of problems, thereby acting as a company field representative. Returns and unloads returned rental equipment, assuring proper segregation of clean and dirty equipment. Completes delivery and pick-up paperwork promptly and accurately, including route sheets, manifests, and patient/client documentation, returning paperwork to the appropriate facility personnel. Assists in cleaning and disinfecting rental equipment. Assists in minor repair work on home medical equipment within the scope of training. Requests additional stock for inventory as needed. Assists in inventory count as needed. Maintains a professional appearance and appears in proper company uniform. Assists in tracking down paperwork, signatures, charts, etc. as needed to complete orders. Promotes teamwork among co-workers, including in assisting respiratory therapists and patient care coordinator as needed. Takes "on-call" time on an agreed upon basis. Performs all office maintenance tasks as required. Demonstrates timeliness, courtesy, sincerity, and patience when dealing with patients/clients. Markets the company in a positive and professional manner at all times. Assumes other duties within scope of training as assigned by the Respiratory Operations Manager. Other duties as assigned. Observes and maintains isolation precautions; maintains standard precautions on all patients. Follows hand washing guidelines. Utilizes two patient identifiers when caring for patients. Provides and maintains safety and comfort measures for the patients- making sure the bed is in the lowest possible position, side rails up and stretchers locked. Appropriately labels and bags specimens for transport to the lab. Properly handles all dirty equipment to prevent any cross-contamination. Helps to maintain a neat and safe environment by making sure the hallways are free from clutter, the linen and endoscope storage closet is well maintained. Collaborates with the Perioperative Nursing staff to provide sterile instrument sets, equipment and case carts in an accurate and timely manner. May be assigned service-specific technical responsibilities, including collaborating with supervisor and Operating Room service line RN Coordinators to provide resources and services for service specific instrumentation, supplies and equipment. Assists in maintaining consistent and continuous workflow, providing superior customer service. Decontaminates instruments, supplies and equipment according to established policies and procedures. Cleans, assembles, wraps, containerizes, sterilizes and stores supplies and instrument trays. Sterilizes instruments, equipment and supplies as required; handles and stores instruments, equipment and supplies appropriately. Performs biological and chemical monitoring in accordance with quality assurance standards. Reviews the daily surgical schedule with CSP supervisor and obtains instruments, supplies and equipment for scheduled and emergent procedures. Assembles case carts; places instrument sets and supplies appropriately for each procedure cart.
