The state of Hawaiʻi granted a charter of incorporation to Hawaiʻi Pacific on September 17, 1965.
In 1967, James L. Meader became Hawaiʻi Pacific College's first President.
When President Meader retired on June 30, 1968, the Board of Trustees elected the Reverend George A. Warmer as Hawaiʻi Pacific's second President.
In 1972, Hawaiʻi Pacific College graduated seven students in its first commencement class and in the same year established a School of Business Administration.
President Warmer retired in 1976, and Chatt G. Wright became Hawaiʻi Pacific's third President.
1985 | Grand opening of Trombley Square, a popular student gathering place at the heart of the Forest Grove campus
Hawaiʻi Pacific became Hawaiʻi Pacific University (HPU) in 1990.
In 1992, a picturesque Windward college merged with a downtown university, uniting the strength of two academically strong institutions.
1994 | The School of Education (now College of Education) is established
In 2004, the College of Health Professions was formed; consolidating all the health programs except for the College of Optometry under one umbrella.
Pacific University's Hillsboro Campus opened in 2006 as home of the new college.
A $51 million capital campaign was completed in 2006, helping to fuel a building boom.
In the same year, new programs in Pharmacy and Dental Hygiene were established, followed by a Master of Healthcare Administration program in 2008.

In 2011, President Chatt G. Wright retired and Geoffrey Bannister, Ph.D., became HPU's fourth President on July 1.
The Woodburn Campus opened in 2012, offering undergraduate and graduate teacher-preparation programs within the College of Education.
In 2013, the College of Business was founded to further develop the existing undergraduate business degree programs and add graduate-level programs.
HPU completed a merger to bring Oceanic Institute formally into the university in January 2014.
2014 | Cascade Hall opens for student residents and is the seventh university building to be LEED-certified for sustainable building design
The $50 million Aloha Tower Marketplace revitalization project was completed in August 2015, opening to students and the community.
On July 1, 2016, John Yukio Gotanda, J.D., took office as Hawaiʻi Pacific University's fifth president.
