Hawaii Preparatory Academy company history timeline

1949

Hawaiʻi Preparatory Academy was founded on March 12, 1949, when Bishop Harry Kennedy of the Episcopal Church and a group of Hawai‘i Island citizens signed the articles of incorporation for Hawai’i Episcopal Academy.

1957

In 1957, two Honolulu firms pledged substantial financial assistance and the church gave its direction to a new governing board.

1967

The Davies Chapel, designed by Vladimir Ossipoff (as were most of the upper campus structures) was built in 1967.

1976

HPA acquired the Waimea Village Inn in 1976 and transformed these buildings into HPA’s Village Campus, which now houses HPA’s Lower and Middle Schools in the heart of Waimea, serving kindergarten through eighth grade.

2008

The upper campus has a weight room, wrestling room, pool, school library, an indoor tennis facility, baseball field, gym, bookstore, as well as a new (2008) softball field, a newly repaired football/soccer field and a new rubber track.
